I couldn’t wait to review one of the bicycling camp offered by Pedalheads! They were very helpful helping us select the right program and registration was easy on their website.
Michael was riding on a balance bike occasionally and had tried out his sister’s pedal bike a couple of times before the class.
He got a new pedal bike for his birthday a couple of weeks before the camp started and couldn’t wait to get riding it!
We registered for the Newbees class.
The Newbees class is for riders who cannot yet ride a two-wheeler independently, and still require assistance from either their training wheels or an individual, kids must be turning 4 in the calendar year, or older for this class.
The first day was amazing! The kids were grouped up by skill level in groups of 4 with each instructor, after sign-in they had their helmets checked for size and safety and met their group of new friends.
The kids started off with some fun stretching and games to warm up then went off with their instructor for the day.
Our instructor Megan was so great with the kids. She kept the group interested for the entire morning playing games both on and off their bikes. As the kids were talking about characters they loved , Megan was very attentive and would incorporate them into the games they were playing, making each kid feel like they were really being listened to.
Shortly into the morning the kids took a washroom and snack break and we’re excited to get back at it. They were well hydrated through the day and took the time to cool down in the shade when needed.
Riding bikes in the grassy field was a great experience as it helps the kids really build those muscles to pedal their bikes and makes riding on the pavement much easier later!
After the first morning at camp, Michael got on his bike and rode to car all by himself! He was so proud of his new skills each day and would tell me about his whole morning on our drive home starting with “that was fun mom“!
On day two he learned how to use his brakes and steer through the obstacle course.
On the last day the kids got to decorate their bikes and got their faces painted! They also got a report card with a recommendation for the next class. This was such a fantastic program, I’ve already recommended it to many friends and family 🙂
