Why would I take my child, who has no symptoms, to a chiropractor?

January 12, 2017

It is a proactive lifestyle habit that nurture’s your child’s health.

Ten reasons parents now take their children to see a chiropractor

1.)    To maximize their child’s plasticity (brain and nerve development)

2.)    To enhance their child’s overall health and well being

3.)    To strengthen immunity and reduce the incidence of colds, earaches, and general illness

4.)    To help with colic, and irritable Baby syndrome (removing the subluxation allows the body to heal itself)

5.)    To help with asthma, breathing difficulties and allergies

6.)    To improve spinal posture which impacts nerve messages working properly

7.)    To improve their child’s ability to concentrate

8.)    To assist with behavioral disorders and offer greater emotional well-being

9.)    To help alleviate bed wetting and digestive problems

10.) To assist with sleep issues

Chiropractic and Neural Plasticity as recorded by Jennifer Barham-Floreani

So much research is still required for learning how the body functions – we just learned there is a new organ in the body relating to the digestive system the mesentery.

So how chiropractic influences neuroplasticity is gaining more and more insight into this area yearly through work by Harville Hendrix, Heidi Haadvik, and Helen Hunt.  (Something about having a name with h’s in it).

“A baby is born with about 100 billion nerve cells (neurons), about the same number as the number of stars in the Milky Way.  These neurons form themselves into circuits that are laid down in patterns according to instructions from genes.  These circuits are not stable and immutable.  They can be changed.  The genes provide the framework for the brain but life experience direct the final construction.”

“The childhood years determine which of these circuits get maintained and strengthened, and which atrophy and die.  The brain is in the process of organizing itself into the physical maps that govern such functions as seeing, hearing, speaking and moving.  By the age of ten or so, half of these connections will be gone and the child will have about the number of connects he will keep throughout his life!”

Which connections stay and which go depends on which ones the baby uses in the course of his experiences.  Babies in deprived environments develop fewer connections.  Babies in appropriately stimulating environments grow brains that are filled with healthy connections and patterns.  The brain’s plasticity – its ability to change its physical and chemical structure responsively as it interacts with the environment – enables it to use the outside world to create itself.  The baby’s brain becomes increasingly effective at doing what that baby’s environment demands.”

Chiropractic helps maximize a child’s neural plasticity so the baby can respond effectively and in a healthy way to its environment and not break down.  Subluxations interfere with neural plasticity.
