Ferritin+: a plant-based way to boost iron!

03/02/2022

As a mother (especially a new one), it’s not uncommon to feel tired a lot of the time. You might write it off as a byproduct of the many sleepless nights that no doubt you experience. Maybe you’re still getting up for night feeds. You might also have difficulty concentrating or completing daily tasks. Easy enough to also attribute this to the night wakings you experience with a baby. What about dark under eye circles that don’t seem to go away? Pale skin? Catching colds easily or feeling chilly often? Do you have nails that are brittle and break easily? Thinning hair? If any of these sound familiar, it’s possible that you may be suffering from low iron.

Women and Iron

Low iron is not uncommon. It is estimated that 1 in 4 women suffer from iron deficiency, making it the most common nutritional deficiency – especially among women 18-50, pregnant women, athletes, vegans, and vegetarians. In childbearing years, women are at a greater risk for iron deficiency because of the loss of blood during menstruation. Foundational for pregnancy and fetal development, during pregnancy women face the greatest need for iron. The developing baby takes the iron it needs from the mother’s iron stores.

Common Side Effects of Iron Supplements

I have dealt with low iron myself since my early 20s. Both my pregnancies also sent my iron levels plummeting and I supplemented to help increase my levels both during and after pregnancy. Like many other women with iron deficiency, I found that I had to choose between my symptoms of low iron and the effects that are common with most iron supplements:

–        Stomach pain
–        Constipation
–        Diarrhea
–        Nausea

Traditional iron supplements cause constipation because there is low absorption in the body. The last thing anyone wants is to take an iron supplement that is going to exacerbate constipation and bloating. Iron supplements can also be hard on the stomach, contributing to morning sickness in pregnancy, which makes it hard to keep up with a supplement routine.

A Plant-Based Alternative

Ferritin+ from Flora Health is a breakthrough plant-based iron supplement clinically proven to increase ferritin iron levels without irritation or constipation. Unlike other formulas on the market, Ferritin+ is plant-based and encased in pea protein, so it will not hurt your stomach or cause gut damage or constipation, which is really important for those taking prenatal vitamins that contain iron. Ferritin+ iron has its own unique absorption pathway called endocytosis – the ferritin protein ‘docks’ with the cells of the intestinal lining at specific sites and slowly releases its iron atoms for absorption into the bloodstream. From there, it can replenish your red blood cells and ferritin iron reserves as needed. Organic and gluten-free, Ferritin+ is also an excellent supplement for those on a plant based diet who may struggle with iron levels.

Proudly Canadian

Flora is a family-owned Canadian company and  has been providing Canadians with premium health supplements since 1965. As a company, they are invested in evidence-based research to ensure their products are not just safe but also effective. The development of Ferritin+ is supported by not one but three clinical trials as well as 11 patents!

Just one capsule a day can help to increase your red blood cell count and provide oxygen to your organs making you feel more energized, clear headed and alert – naturally!
