Why You Need a City of Edmonton Recreation Membership

June 11, 2017

Does your family love swimming, skating, and playing at Indoor Playgrounds? Are you looking for fitness classes or a place to work out on your own but need childcare for your children? Then, invest in a City of Edmonton Recreation Pass. For many individuals and families, the City of Edmonton Recreation Pass is an affordable way to access fitness and leisure year-round. Now, it’s entirely possible that I’m the only person in Edmonton who didn’t realize what an amazing deal this was, but just in case I’m not, I thought I’d share with you.

The City of Edmonton offers three different levels of membership, depending on your needs:

Level One: Facility Pass

This pass includes all self-directed activities, i.e., public swim, lane swim, and access to the fitness centre. The pass is valid at the following City of Edmonton Recreation Centres and all the outdoor pools: ACT, Bonnie Doon, Central Lions, Confederation, Eastglen, Grand Trunk, Hardisty, Jasper Place, Londonderry, O’Leary, Peter Hemingway, St. Francis Xavier, and Mill Woods.

Level Two: Facility Plus Pass

In addition to everything in the Facility Pass, this pass includes admission to all drop-in instructor-led programs and access to the Kinsmen Sports Centre, Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre, and City Arts Centre.

Level Three: All Facility Pass

This pass gives you everything from the Facility Plus Pass as well as access to Clareview, The Meadows, and Terwillegar Community Recreation Centres.

The best bang for your buck is definitely the continuous monthly membership. You aren’t locked into a contract. It just means that your membership fee is taken directly from your account each month until you decide to cancel. Let’s say you decide to invest in a continuous monthly All Facility Family Pass. You’ll pay $184 each month. But this means that your family can swim and skate year-round at every City of Edmonton Recreation Centre and outdoor pool for no additional cost. This also means that you and your children can play at all the Indoor Playgrounds at all the Rec Centres for no additional cost. And best of all, while you exercise in one of the fitness centres or attend one of the diverse drop-in fitness programs, your children will be taken care of in the childcare room for no extra cost. Here’s an extensive list of exclusive membership benefits for continuous monthly and annual memberships.

The Scoop On Childminding

Childminding is included in all Facility Plus and All Facility Family Passes and Children’s Passes. So, if you’re a single parent household or a two-parent household with only one child over the age of two, then the best option for you would be to purchase a pass for each adult and for your child. If your child is under the age of 2, then you would pay for your adult passes and then a flat monthly fee for childminding – $40 – the equivalent of a child’s monthly pass.

The City of Edmonton also has a Leisure Access Program for low-income Edmontonians that offers the following per year:

  • 75% discount for 3 registered programs and required supplies for adults and seniors
  • 75% discount for 4 registered programs and required supplies for children and youth
