Emelia’s Daycare and Child Development Centre in St. Albert

July 27, 2017

We field questions about childcare options from families in our programs and online community on a regular basis. We love being able to help families find the right nanny, daycare, or dayhome, one they feel safe entrusting their children to and whose values are aligned with their own. With so many varied and available choices, finding the right dayhome or daycare can feel all-consuming. We recently learned about a newer daycare in St. Albert, Emelia’s Child Development Centre, and we’d love to help you get acquainted.

Emelia’s Child Development Centre is a fully accredited private daycare. To become accredited, a childcare centre must undergo an extensive self-evaluation and quality enhancement process, based on standards set forth by the Association for Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS). Accredited centers must continue to comply with these standards, undergo annual reviews, and are subject to unannounced visits. Accreditation is one step closer to piece of mind for many families.

About the Centre

Emelia’s Daycare Centre is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. They currently care for children ranging from 12 months to 12 years. Their Baby Room is designed for infants 12 to 19 months. Their Toddler Room is for little ones 19 months to 3 years and their Preschool Room is for children 3 to 5 years. Beyond that is Out of School Care (OSC) for children 5 to 10 years (or older).

While in their care, all children engage in age-appropriate and recommended activities that are designed to meet their developmental needs and help them advance to the next level. There is a spacious outdoor play area, field trips, a Smartboard, and hands-on activities like puppet shows, sensory play, and crafts. Children are encouraged, whenever possible, to provide input into their own programs. The Play to Learn Philosophy is evident at Emelia’s; children are encouraged to explore their surroundings and grow their imaginations.

Subsidy is available for families who qualify. All permanent childcare staff maintain up-to-date childcare First Aid & CPR Certification. First Aid supplies are kept in each room, including the Director’s office. A first aid kit and emergency contact cards for each child are taken on all outings, field trips, walks to and from school, and playtime in the park. In addition, the Director is present at the daycare every day.

For those with school-aged children, Emelia’s has a daycare bus that picks up and drops off children to both Elmer.S Gish school and Sir Alexander Mackenzie School. Communication is a priority at Emelia’s Child Development Centre, as staff ensures regular check-ins with parents and management.

Emelia’s Daycare has numerous heartfelt testimonials that we think you should read along with a detailed schedule for each day.

About the Director

Emelia’s Daycare is privately owned and operated by Belinda Mendoca. She believes that every child is unique and should be given opportunity to explore and discover their talents and passions. Love, care, play, and nurturing are all integral to her childcare approach. She has worked in childcare as a Director for more than 7 years. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree and has worked as a teacher for more than 20 years at various schools. She currently holds a Supervisor Level 3 in childcare and has current First Aid certification.
