Before children, I would have considered myself a “foodie”. Nowadays, I feel like I never have a moment to sit down and eat a decent meal! I dream of the day my kiddos are able to help me prepare a delicious meal.
Enter Little Kitchen Academy Vaughan. Founded by Felicity Curin on the west coast, inspired by her own family traditions (and a health scare that opened her eyes to think about how healthier living could be incorporated into their daily lives), she took her extensive culinary background, coupled it with her Association Montessori Internationale teaching degree, and created something magical for us all to enjoy.
With soon to be 26 locations across Canada and the US, Little Kitchen Academy (LKA) embraces the pedagogy of Montessori education. Children from ages 3-18 (appropriately grouped by age, of course), get immersed into weekly 3-hour sessions – side note: consecutive intensive weeks are offered during those dreaded school breaks!
Each session delves into learning how to make healthy, delicious, and seasonal meals from scratch to consumption – did I mention that they even grow a lot of their own food in house!? By cooking with seasonal, local ingredients they are able to spark the curiosity, imagination, and taste buds of their students. Their classes will inspire your child to try new foods and take on new challenges.
Walking into their newest location in Vaughan (located at Unit 4 – 20 Jacob Keffer Parkway), the pristine cleanliness of this shiny bright space was almost enough for me to want to throw on a chef’s coat and shoes myself! The kids even get fully outfitted with sponsored Birkenstocks!
After a tour of the stunning facility, meeting some of the incredible staff, and hearing about the program, I was convinced this was definitely something we needed to enroll Zachary in! (But shh, they already had me at “drop-off”).
Not only is Little Kitchen Academy Vaughan cool, they embody true genius providing transferable skills into all aspects of young lives. Students are empowered to cook on their own, which builds confidence, independence, and healthy eating habits, all while gaining practical life skills, learning food literacy, and polishing up their table manners by sharing meals around the community table. Through the lens of my own educator background, I know that my kids will be too busy having fun to realize that they are soaking in knowledge! I absolutely cannot wait to be served my next meal! (Can you?)
Registration is now open for their Spring and Summer programs (including March Break).

Jessica lives in Thornhill, Ontario with her family. She is a mom to two kiddos, Zachary – 3 years old and Alexis – 1 year old. While Covid robbed her of a “normal” maternity leave the first time around, she survived in large part due to the connections and friendships she formed through Mommy Connections. The elementary teacher in her was determined to get ahead of planning and ensure mat leave success the second time around; and what would you know, a new passion for supporting new moms was discovered. Jessica knows, whole-heartedly, how vital it is to have a network of support around as one attempts to navigate the rollercoaster that is becoming new parents. She can’t wait for you to come and learn from the experts, make “mom friends” to commiserate with, ask questions of, and have fun with!
