Baby Safety Gate Review: Brica Gate By Munchkin

Baby gates. Finding the right one can be a tough thing to do with so many on the market. We have two little ones, plus my niece is also now crawling so finding a baby safety gate that works was very important. What to buy? What features are necessary? Where to start looking? We had a lot of questions, so I decided to start with a brand name I knew and trusted, Munchkin.

The gate I am reviewing today is the Brica Extending Metal Top of Stair Gate made by Munchkin (as seen in the photo). Below are the features of this gate:

* Push gate to close and lock
* Tilt mechanism reduces stress on wall
* Gate opens in either direction
* Quick release for easy removal
* Double locking handle is easy for an adult to use but difficult for a child

Set up:

This can be a tricky one as my husband is not a ‘handy-man.’ So I was pleasantly surprised when the gate took less than an hour to install. The directions were simple to follow (diagrams) and it helped in making the installation an easy task instead of a long afternoon of work! For some diagrams don’t work so well and written instructions are better, but I like diagrams and these ones worked for us.

Ease of Use:

There’s a few things that appealed to me right away when I used this gate. It swings out both ways which is a nice feature to have (I always like options). You can push the button while holding one child, possibly even two kids (yes sometimes we do hold both at the same time)! What’s even better is that I can easily open it, but my two and a half year old can’t. That’s a great safety feature in my books, add in the fact it locks at the bottom and top and that’s an added layer of safety that works for us.

Final Thoughts:

Lastly, the one thing I don’t like about safety gates is that some have a bar across the bottom. I always seem to trip on these bars at other people’s houses, call me clumsy but I don’t like that about safety gates. This gate does not have that bar which was a big plus for us (or just clumsy me)!

I really liked this gate for our family. Easy to install, use and very functional. There are a lot of gates on the market, but for us it worked based on the features that it provided. If you do want to check this one out you can find it at Babies R Us.
