Events For Your Little Ducklings: November Edition

Finding activities for your little ducklings can sometimes be a challenge; especially in the 0-3 range. You want to expose them to different experiences, but they don’t have the developmental capabilities to really “do” much. I like to think of what I do with my girls as exposure to different stimuli and they can make the decision to take part as much as they would like to and feel safe doing. Don’t forget to do things that YOU want to do, because you are growing the bonding between you and your children and building family memories, even if they don’t remember them! Here is a list of things that you and your 0-3 year old could be involved in around the Calgary area in the month of November. Now that the weather has turned and we are quickly approaching the season of snow, it is time to start discovering what indoor activities are available. And it is also a busy month of holiday preparation!

Story Time At The Gasoline Alley Museum:
Heritage Park boasts an incredible amount of things to do for everyone in the family throughout the year. During the winter, one of the best things to do is to go hear some classic stories in the Museum.
Age: All Ages
Date & Time: Tuesdays at 10:30am

Okotoks Christmas Festival
There are a lot of different Christmas Fairs, Festivals, Markets etc. out there, but this is a wonderfully kid-friendly one. There are many many different vendors, a children’s workshop with crafts, cookie decorating and other activities, live carolling, and of course, Santa!
Age: All Ages
Date & Time: Friday November 6th 4:00 – 9:00pm
Saturday November 7th 10:00am – 5:00pm
Sunday November 8th 10:00am – 5:00pm
Cost: $5/person at the door OR $8/person for a weekend pass. Children under 12 are FREE.

Calgary Family Christmas Market
This Christmas Market is geared towards expecting moms to preschool kids. It is hosted by Welcome Wagon Family Events and everyone receives a FREE gift bag. The only thing you need to make sure you do is register online at www.calgaryfamilyevent.ca
Age: All Ages but best for parents of preschool aged and younger (so you!)
Date & Time: November 15th, 10:00am – 3:00pm
Cost: FREE (just need to register online)

Joso’s Play and Learn Centre: Indoor Play & Reptile Parties
There are certainly a lot of indoor play areas around Calgary; however, Joso’s not only has a great reputation, 2 different locations, but they also have a couple great events going on this month. There are different parts to the indoor play area that target different ages so it is ideal for the 0-3 age range!
Special Events: Thursday November 19th (9:30-10:00am) – Calgary Reptile Party at the West Springs location (SW). Head in to meet friendly bearded dragons, frilled dragons, geckos, snakes, tarantulas and scorpions.
Thursday November 19th (11:15-11:45am) – Calgary Reptile Party at the Creekside location (NW).
These Reptile Parties may not be the best for the infants in the family; however, would be absolutely jaw-dropping for those curious little toddlers!
Times and Rates: See website (http://www.josos.ca/playground/) for times and entrance fees. They have many different packages and rates, but don’t forget that on Tuesdays, play is only $2.00 per child!

Once Upon A Christmas at Heritage Park:
Heritage Park boasts an incredible amount of things to do for everyone in the family throughout the year. This particular event brings traditional Christmas to life with gingerbread cookie decorating, Christmas critters petting zoo, wagon rides, children’s crafts, and much much more. Bundle up your ducklings and explore the magical grounds of Heritage Park.

Date & Time: Weekends 9:30am – 4:00pm from November 21st – December 20th

Marlborough Mall Puppet and Magic Show:
Every second or third Saturday of the month, the Marlborough Mall puts on FREE kids activities. This month there will be a puppet and magic show. My little ducklings just LOVE puppet shows, and it doesn’t matter the age, they are so entertaining for all. Kids do need to have a free membership in the Little Bugs Club (sign up at http://www.marlboroughmall.com/pages/marlborough-little-bugs-club) in order to participate.
Age: 12 and under
Date and Time: November 21st, 1:00 – 3:00pm
Cost: FREE
Location: Family Park (just inside entrance #1) at Marlborough Mall 3800 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB

ZOOLIGHTS at The Calgary Zoo
The highly anticipated ZOOLIGHTS begins soon with 1.5 million lights twisting around the Calgary Zoo flashing to music and arranged in animal shapes. Bundle up your little ducklings and take them to the Kids Zone or wander around and enjoy the beautiful displays. I cannot wait for this one!
Age: All Ages (even your littlest ones will love the lights!)
Date & Time: November 27th – January 2nd every night from 6:00 – 9:00pm
Cost: Adult (16+) $14 and Child (3-15) $11

Now that Halloween is over, it is time to pull out those flannel PJs, cozy slippers, make some hot chocolate, and start the cookie baking for the holiday season! Yes my friends, it is already November, and Christmas is on it’s way.
