SUMYCOTTON designs, manufactures, and distributes a line of children’s t-shirts, PJs and blankets made of 100% Peruvian Pima cotton, to fulfill a dire market need for comfortable clothes suitable for children afflicted with eczema. Additionally, we use lead-free, eco-friendly inks in our graphics.

Pima, or extra-long staple (ELS) cotton is a high-quality fabric with long fibers that is usually found in Ecuador, Peru, New Mexico, West Texas, California and Arizona. Pima is well known and recommended in the medical community because of its supple softness, which reduces the more disruptive symptoms of a variety of conditions, like eczema. The benefits are many: Pima contains the chemical gossypol, which helps reduce its vulnerability to insects and fungus, decreasing the need to use pesticides and chemicals that leave residual particles that cause irritation or allergies. Garments made with Pima are more resistant to repeated washing (vital in children’s clothing), and don’t deform or generate excessive lint when washing and drying.

Pima has many other benefits for people with skin conditions. Synthetic fibers repel water and moisture, which in turn traps heat and moisture within the fabric, irritating the skin.  Wool and linen are courser fabrics, and wool can be a trigger for irritation and allergies.

We’ve seen firsthand how our garments help eczema patients by decreasing their irritation and discomfort, and giving them a substantially better quality of life. This is especially critical in children.
