Baby Leaf Covers is a local Canadian brand that was founded by a Calgary mom who couldn’t find exactly what she was looking for in the perfect baby item. With her first baby, Diana struggled with her apron style nursing cover because it would always get kicked off to the side, leaving her feeling exposed. The car seat cover she had would always fly off in the wind, causing her baby to wake up from the bright sunlight, not to mention it just seemed like another thing to carry.  When her second baby was born, Diana decided to design a cover that was both practical and stylish. After a few late nights in front of the sewing machine and some scrap fabric, the idea finally made sense. Baby Leaf Covers can be used in 6 different ways and simplifies motherhood by merging fashion with function.

This versatile car seat cover also doubles as a nursing cover and provides coverage from front to back, encouraging mothers to breastfeed their baby anytime and anywhere. The zipper feature allows the nursing cover to become adjustable, so it’s the perfect fit for every mom. When used over the infant car seat or stroller, the zipper can also be adjusted to create a perfect window for baby, so parents can peek in on their little one while keeping the sun and wind out. Baby Leaf Covers can also be worn as a poncho or scarf or even used to cover up the shopping cart or swing, protecting busy hands from germs. The fabric is made of beautiful bamboo and organic cotton, making it the softest and most comfortable cover for both mommy and baby.

Before the product made its way onto store shelves, the actual process of sourcing quality fabric and zipper took a really long time. The zippers had to be custom ordered and the biggest challenge was learning how to be patient. Having our product made in Canada was also really important but took some time to sort out. “Sometimes you know you have a good idea and you just want to see it happen but it’s easy to overlook the length of time it takes to get an idea into a sellable product.”  With two small children keeping her busy, Diana juggles her business with family first and late nights second. “But with a business there are always late nights”. Having said that, Diana contributes much of her growth to her local community. “People love knowing where the product is made and the story behind it. Calgary is such a supportive community, right from the small shops that carry our brand all the way to the individuals who would stop at our booth at various local markets. We love it when people stop by to learn more about what makes Baby Leaf Covers unique. It’s so fun to be involved with the community and we are thankful for that.”
