03/10/2020

Looking for ideas on how to keep the kids busy this March Break (March 16-20)? There are fun events taking place around Mississauga — and many of them are free. We’ve rounded up a few not-to-miss activities where your little ones can try something new, be creative or get outside, and every member of the family can have fun.

Get up close with puppets at the Bridges Festival (March 13-15, 2020)

Bridges Festival is a new three day puppetry festival in Mississauga filled with exciting shows, interactive workshops and a free exhibition of a giant dragon. The all-Canadian talent lineup includes works by Puzzle Theatre, Montreal; Puppet Mongers, Toronto; Our Space, Mississauga/Milton; and Les Panaches, Montreal.

With five different shows (ages 3+) and three different workshops (ages 5+), families can enjoy both puppet watching and puppet making. Kids and adults are invited to participate in free interactive workshops at the Maja Prentice Theatre and Burnhamthorpe Library, dance with large scale animated puppets at Celebration Square and Port Credit Landing, and discover a twenty-two feet long giant dragon puppet at the Small Arms Inspection Building.

Maple Magic at the Bradley Museum (March 14-22, 2020)

Mississauga’s favourite maple tradition, Maple Magic, returns to the Bradley Museum for March Break. Families can learn all about maple syrup and take a maple sap tour, sample maple treats, enjoy pancakes at the Sugar Shack, and visit the petting zoo. Daily, noon – 4 pm.

Story time and more at Mississauga Libraries (March 16-21, 2020)

Libraries across Mississauga are gearing up to welcome families for a wide variety of activities — entertaining performances, live shows, educational and interactive workshops and more. Topics include animals, arts and crafts, author visits, building, city heroes, gaming, magic, movies and music, and nature and science, to name a few. Many of the programs are free; some require advance registration.

Experience nature at The Riverwood Conservancy (March 16-19, 2020)

Kids and parents can get up close with wildlife at The Riverwood Conservancy. Various free events include learning about reptiles and mammals with Party Safari, meeting birds of prey from the Mountsberg Raptor Centre, and popular Hot Chocolate and Wild Birds hikes. Riverwood is tucked in a beautiful plot of land near the Erindale Go station. Spaces are limited but registration is free.
