It’s the time of year many parents would be jumping to register their kids for summer camps. However with COVID-19, it remains to be seen exactly how this summer will pan out. Here in Mississauga we’re remaining cautiously optimistic that some businesses and services will be up and running again in time for the warmer months—at present, the city has declared closures until July 3. Goodness knows by then we’ll need a break from the kids, and they’ll need something fun and engaging after a tough spring.

We have you covered with 5 local summer camps guaranteed to please any age of camper. Some of the below are also offering virtual programs, should the quarantine period last longer in the year.

1. Camp Tournesol

Camp Tournesol’s priority is building French skills in a safe and fun environment for all children. All 16 campuses across the GTA—including three locations in Mississauga—are staffed with highly trained, enthusiastic, and caring counsellors and education professionals. Whether your child is Francophone, in French Immersion, or has no French experience, Camp Tournesol has a day camp suitable for them.

Ages: 4-15. Overnight camps are also available for children ages 8 to 15, as well as an exciting 13-day trip to Quebec

Dates: Weekly, July 6 to August 28, 2020

Hours: 9am-4pm. Extended hours (7:30-9am, 4-6pm) are contingent upon sufficient registration

2. The School of Creative Arts

The School promises to inspire, nurture and develop your child’s creativity and artistic skills. They believe that participation in arts programs develops children’s motivation, self confidence, improves critical thinking skills, provides fine and gross motor skill mastery and will provide children with the tools they need to lead a happy, confident life well beyond the school years. For kids aged 4-10, The School is running a variety of summer programs including Ninja Parkour Camp, Broadway Camp, Creative Arts Camp, and Dance Camp. Teen camps for 11 years+ include Parkour Camp, Teen Wellness Camp, and Teen Theatre Camp.

3. Budding Genius Central Mississauga Summer Camps

Recognized by the University of Toronto as one of the world’s most innovative STEAM programs for children, Budding Genius Central Mississauga summer camps give preschoolers, kids, and teens the chance to explore science, technology, engineering, math and art. Popular camp topics include robotics, website design, animation, Harry Potter- and Star Wars-themed programming and more. Budding Genius’ “Budding Explorers” camps are designed for preschoolers aged three to six years old. Little ones will have the opportunity to discover the solar system, grow a plant, intro to coding, learn about geometry, practice 3D drawings, explore KiwiCo Crates, and learn math with Lego. Programs are offered in both English and French with bilingual staff.

4. Pedalheads Bike Camps

Pedalheads offers learn-to-ride bike programs to families in over 45 cities across Canada and the USA. They help kids aged 3-12 get off training wheels and safely ride on the road. Their half-day or full-day summer camps develop healthy, confident, and independent kids by way of their unique teaching methods, small classes, and incredible instructors. They also offer advanced bike lessons that focus on road safety, including exciting trail riding camps.

5. Aqua-Tots Swim Schools

Aqua-Tots Swim Schools in Mississauga teaches children important safety skills and helps them develop a lifelong love of the water in a facility designed for kids. Small group swim lessons are offered seven days a week throughout the summer, for kids of all ages and swim abilities, including infants. Aqua-Tots are known for their years of experience, comprehensive curriculum, quality swim instructors, and state-of-the-art facilities.
