I woke up yesterday and said, “If I do nothing else today, I will make SURE that I fill up our humidifiers.” Simple task, takes approximately 2 minutes tops. Did it get completed? Of course not! I went to bed and asked my husband, “What exactly did I do all day that prevented me from filling up those dreadfully annoying (but necessary in Edmonton) humidifiers?”
There are many days where I vow to have one specific task completed and fail. Now, this doesn’t mean I’m not doing anything. I get many, many, many (emphasis on many) things done in one day, but some days they’re just not the things I want to achieve. I have also come to realize that I can’t try to be something that I’m not.
For example, I have never been a foodie. I am the kind of person that wishes I could take a pill and not have to worry about the task of preparing and eating food. Unfortunately for my hungry-after-work husband, this hasn’t changed despite my increased “time” at home to potentially use for cooking. After a (minor) breakdown last week where I rapidly listed off all of the things I have to do, my loving hubby agreed to go to a meal-preparation business called Cena To Go in Sherwood Park. Basically, you go online, pick the meals you want to prepare, and then show up at the scheduled time to make your meals. My husband loved it because it feels like you’re on a cooking show – all of the ingredients and supplies are right there in front of you. It turned out to be a fun date night and we came home with 12 delicious meals.
This doesn’t mean I’m never going to cook dinner, but it takes the pressure off. It means that if I don’t feel like cooking one day, we’ll have something to take out of the freezer that tastes great and was made with fresh ingredients. Otherwise, we’d be left to exploring our cereal shelf (again!).
I’m curious what you readers do to help take the pressure off your list of “things-to-do”. Please leave comments below and help the rest of us out!
