Celebrating Family Day in Simcoe County

02/16/2024

February is a month filled with love, and here it is also a time to celebrate time with family. Family Day falls on the 3rd Monday of February.

In 1990 this new statutory day was introduced to celebrate the importance of family values.

Whether you choose to spend time with family, neighbors, or spend time with friends, this day is a reminder to unwind, reconnect, and engage in activities that celebrate togetherness.

You can brave the cold outdoors for an adventure or stay cozy indoors, there are countless ways to make the most of this day. Here are a few suggestions for ways to spend Family Day in Simcoe County.

If you enjoy the crisp winter air there is no shortage of fun to be had in the great outdoors :

  • Go ice skating

Friday Harbour

Barrie City Hall (70 Collier Street)

Cookstown Outdoor Rink ( 20 Church St)

Town Square Skating Trail ( 971 Innisfil Beach Rd)

  • Go snow tubing

  • Go snowshoeing

  • Go snowboarding /skiing

  • If the snow is just right (building forts and snowmen)

The outdoors is not for everyone, and that is alright. You can enjoy Family day in the warmth and coziness of the indoors:

  • Have a movie night ( complete with popcorn, and blankets)
  • Enjoy a board game
  • Cooking or baking  together
  • Indoor fort building

No matter how you spend the day, it is a day to cherish moments, create memories and come together with those you hold dear.
