Product Review: Weleda White Mallow baby creams

06/11/2015

Corporate_seal_line_EN_CMYK_CI had the privilege of reviewing the Weleda Baby Derma White Mallow product line consisting of the body cream, face cream and diaper rash cream product. I tested these on my toddler with eczema and all-in-all, I was quite impressed with the results.

The Weleda mallow body cream has been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance and is made with 95% organic ingredients. It consists of organic white mallow and pansy extracts to soothe baby’s dry skin and promote development of healthy-looking skin, organic coconut oil for hydration and a cooling effect; and borage seed oil and organic safflower oil rich in essential fatty acids to help support and improve baby’s delicate skin barrier.

All of these ingredients work beautifully together to provide a wonderfully mild lotion, with a cool, calming effect that rubs in with a creamy, smooth consistency. I find some baby body creams to be so pasty that they don’t spread on the skin very easily or they or too thin and watery and then don’t moisturize well and you end up having to use half the bottle to ensure full coverage. The application went on with ease and had a luxurious feel. Although the product description says it is fragrance-free I did smell a slight scent of the mallow, but it was a pleasant smell.

When I put the Weleda Body cream on my toddlers’ patchy dry skin on his legs and arms, it was immediately soothing for him. With just a small amount I was able to get quite a large area of coverage. I found it helped him instantly with the itchiness and he wasn’t scratching at his arms and legs. I repeated this a few times a day and I could see an improvement in the problem skin areas.

As for the face cream, the ingredients vary slightly… it still has the white mallow with pansy extracts, but contains organic sweet almond oil and organic sesame oil both rich in soothing vitamin E and essential fatty acids to nourish delicate skin and protect from dryness. My experience with the White Mallow Face cream was similiar to the body lotion. The smell and consistency were great and he loved the feel of the lotion on his face.

It was a true test to the effectiveness of this product since my son happened to be suffering from dry patches and rashes on his cheeks, neck and forehead during the time I was reviewing this product. I found each area that I put it on, I noticed he was not only not scratching at it as much but the areas improved in redness, dryness and the look of his skin was much healthier and smoother, in fact his skin had a nice glow after applying it.

The third product I tested was the Weleda Mallow diaper rash cream, which again, had a slight scent of mallow, but faint and unoffensive. I feel this product smells so much nicer than some other brands of your traditional diaper cream or cold cream. I found it very cooling on the skin and really smooth and easy to rub in unlike other diaper creams that stick to and coat the skin with a cakey thick white layer. The Weleda product was a thicker consistency than the body or face cream but didn’t go on pasty which was very impressive. The times that I put it on my toddler while changing his diaper he would stop fussing and would wait for me to put it on before trying to escape from me, he normally won’t sit still long enough for me to change him let alone put cream on his bum.

However, as with all skin creams, you have to remember to apply and reapply and continue use to get the best results. If I skipped one day or wasn’t religious at putting the cream on 2-3 times a day, he would be go back to the itching and scratching again.

All in all these three products go hand in hand and you can’t use one without the other especially when you have a child with rash prone skin, eczema or any type of dryness like both my boys have. In comparison to other creams on the market I feel the quality is superior, priced fairly, and uses a blend of wonderful natural ingredients. And most importantly, I’ve noticed significant improvement over a few weeks – it has helped to decrease the dryness and discomfort my son has been experiencing with eczema and has provided him some relief. That is worth every penny in my books.
