Be Prepared for Daylight Savings with these Helpful Tips

If you are anything like me or any other mom then SLEEP is a very important part of your life so every daylight savings I prepare myself and my kids for the inevitable. I usually start by reading a ton of blogs to see if all their tips and tricks match up or if there’s something different. So after reviewing many sites I’ve summed it up for you to save you time.

Here are some tips to help with this weekends time change:

1. Spring Forward means preparing your little one by keeping them up ten minutes later a couple days before, i.e. 7pm, 7:10pm, 7:20pm, etc. You can even do this will naps.

2. Overtired children never sleep well so don’t try to tire them out thinking they will sleep in

3. Have a consistent bedtime routine, studies have shown that kids who have a consistent bedtime routine sleep better

4. Try Black out blinds!! They are/were a huge hit for us. We use these ones which can be purchased on Well.ca (another great resource)

5. Some kids are like clockwork so if their internal clocks continue to wake them up too early, insist that it is NOT time to get up and start the day. Tell them to go back to sleep, lie there, wait for the sun or do a quiet activity in their room. It’s really hard at first but after awhile kids get the hang of it.

6. Naps may be the toughest. You may find that they will fight their naps for a couple days but they should adjust

7. There’s always the option of doing nothing and just go with the flow hoping your child will eventually adjust
