Creating Life Harmony – by Glenda Lane, Transformational Life Coach

06/08/2012

In our last toddler program, one of our topics was creating life harmony (balance as a mom). We were visited by Glenda Lane, Transformational Life Coach whose desire is to help people live the life they dream and chieve personal fulfillment.

Below is a summary written by Glenda Lane of what she talked about with our group of Moms:

I chose to talk about balance with you because it is the #1 challenge my clients tell me that they struggle with. Balance is a word I use because it’s the word moms use when they are talking to me. I actually don’t like the word. To me, balance implies that everything is equal and life just isn’t like that. By seeking balance, we set ourselves up for failure because it just isn’t attainable. So if you are carrying any guilt around because you think you have lack of balance, you can let go of it because nobody is completely balanced.

I like to use the word harmony instead. Life is like a jazz band. Somedays your parenting skills will lead. Other times it will be your job. Occasionally your marriage will be front and centre. Harmony in one person’s life will look different from harmony in another’s life. That’s because we are different people with different values. The key is creating what is right for you and your family and not according to how it “should” look according to society. When you are living your life according to your values and what’s important to you, it flow with so much more ease and joy.

We looked at the life harmony wheel and first plotted the amount of attention you are currently devoting to each area. Then I asked you to get in touch with what your values were. I work a lot with my clients on this because a lot of them don’t know what their core values are and it is so important to know this for yourself. Then we recorded the ideal level of attention in each life area. Then you had a visual representation of your current life harmony and your ideal life harmony. Now look at the gaps in between them and these are the areas that need your attention. There are areas that aren’t getting enough of your attention and areas where you are putting in more effort and energy than you’d like. These are energy zappers and your energy and enthusiasm could be better directed elsewhere. Now you can plan actions need to create your ideal harmony. Start with neglected areas. What small steps can you start doing to regain harmony? In the areas that zap your energy, what can you stop doing, delegate or re-prioritize?

Here are some common things my clients have going on with them that are contributing to overwhelm.

Overcommitment – Moms tend to take on this role of superwoman and set really high and unrealistic expectations for themselves. They take on too much. Know your limitations, accept them and set healthy boundaries. There is power in saying no. Every time you say yes and don’t want to, you give your power away.

Perfection – Not only do we tend to take on too much, we expect to be perfect at everything. We all have unique strengths and things we are good at. That’s what makes us all different. So embrace your strengths, drop the perfection and stop beating yourself up about the things you aren’t “perfect” at. I just wrote a blog on perfection. You can check it out at http://glendalane.ca/?p=77 .

The Shoulds – I should do this. I shouldn’t do that. We compare ourselves to other moms and base our decisions on what others are doing and on what the “societal norm” is. We care about what others think. Whenever we are saying “I should”, it is not in alignment with our core values and we are once again giving our power away. So let go of the “shoulds”. In fact, eliminate it from your vocabulary!

Easier said than done though, right? Dropping beliefs about ourselves is not an easy task because they are well ingrained into our subconscious minds. They are patterns or programming we have taken on throughout our lives. In working with my clients, I identify energy blocks that are holding women back from having the lives they really want to live. We then move those blocks with specific energy tools that are quick, simple and extremely effective. The patterns then disappear and new positive and supportive beliefs about ourselves are able to take root.

It is difficult to explain exactly how this coaching works as it is truly experiential. The best way is to have you experience it for yourself. I offer a free introductory session. This free session is a no-strings attached, private 30 minute phone session with me. You just have to let me know a problem or issue you would like me to look at and I will give you insight into the root cause of it. The rest of the session will be spent on using tools to move the energy block/pattern so that your energy field is clear of it. Once you experience it for yourself, you will be AMAZED by how quickly and effectively it works.
You can check out the testimonial page on my website to hear about the results my clients have had.  She also has a free upcoming workshop Planet Organic. Details at:  http://www.planetorganic.ca/ourstores/edmontonsouth/events
