Why Mommy Connections?

This month marks 2 years since I became the Director of Mommy Connections here in Leduc. When I took on this challenge I was looking for a bit more flexibility in my work schedule. As I was due back to work in November I thought I would put an effort in and see if I could make this work for my family. No one told me what a positive experience this would be not only for me but for my family! I was looking for a challenge but what I found was an amazing community of new families eager to meet, learn and connect with each other as well as me and my family!  I have taken my children to the classes and they have been accepted with open arms, tonnes of smiles and compliments. What other job would do that?

Now I think of what Mommy Connections has done for so many of the families that have gone through the classes. I am kind of an outsider looking in; can you imagine the experience these individuals are having? And if you can’t read below:

~I enjoyed this and will definitely do this again!

~My only suggestion is that the I wish there were more weeks! I really enjoyed the weeks socializing & learning. IT’s the best thing a new mom can do, join a class like this!

~I decided to join mommy connections because I enjoyed the Prenatal class, and I also wanted to get to know other moms in the community; hoping to share in the experiences of “mommyhood” 🙂 All through my pregnancy (and this was our first child), I was very excited to network with other moms who were going through the same struggles and joys and to have the kids socialize, as much as they can as babies.

I looked forward to each week, for what we would learn from the speakers and also how each mom and baby was doing. I loved hearing and seeing the milestones the babies reached and how excited we all were as a group to share in those moments. And you (Sheryl) just joined right in and reminisced about your times with your children, never fearing to tell it like it is. Very refreshing! My favorite weeks were the pampering and photo session, the dance class, and the very last class where we just talked the whole time, with no set agenda. Every week was informative, but there will always be something we like over the other sessions 🙂 I occasionally brought my dayhome child with me as well, and everyone was very welcoming of her (just a baby too), and she loved coming along.

Now that the sessions are over, we have started our own facebook page and continue to meet every few weeks, even though everyone may not be available. I went back to work full-time in February and I still enjoy reading that everyone still makes t he effort to see each other, and I am a little sad that I can’t join in. My daughter just turned one, and I invited the whole group–only about half could come, but it was great to see familiar faces and the babies all grown up!!
