Community is calling: Find your village for more than just mat leave with Mommy Connections Cape Breton!

Parents need playdates, too! Do you have a busy baby (8+ months) or tiny tot (-24 months) who’s on the move, crawling, scooting or newly walking? Join us for our *flexible format Mini Movers program to keep them busy and you engaged! Plus, the floor is padded for safe practice and play!

Each week we’ll enjoy a new activity, such as a craft, sensory play, music, photos, etc. or presentation/discussion from a local expert on a topic pertaining to this stage of parenting, such as feeding toddlers, early literacy, etc. The room will be set up with plenty of toys to keep your little ones entertained during our activities and play. You’ll get an informal opportunity to chat and connect with other parents (moms OR dads/caregivers welcome!), building your village one week at a time while the littles make friends, too!

This combined class has a *flexible format: The class runs from 11am to 1:30pm, with any scheduled activity set to start around 12pm. Similar to our Summer Social Sessions, feel free to come when you can and stay as long as you like during the drop-in window. If it’s an open-ended activity like making a sensory toy or craft, the supplies will remain out so you won’t miss a thing. This allows those on variable nap schedules to attend either the early end or the late end of the class and still catch the fun in between!

We’ll meet every *Wednesday in our Mommy Connections community space in the Southend Community Centre. This is a 6-week program designed for babies from ~8 months (crawling) to ~24 months (early walking). These mobility milestones are just a guide—alternative mobility/skills always welcome within the age range!

Included in your $120(+tax) registration fee is:

  • Six classes full of activities, bonding opportunities and connection
  • A free professional picture of you and your baby/toddler, taken by local photographer Wendy Gouthro (Edgewood Studio) with the option to purchase your additional photos or your full gallery at a special Mommy Connections rate
  • A private Facebook group so that you can get to know your fellow parents better
  • A swag bag with lots of goodies and samples from national partners + digital coupons from local collaborators

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How old should my baby be when I register?
A: The ideal time to do this program is when your baby is between 8 and 24 months old. That said, we do sometimes welcome slightly younger babies (7+ months) if they are early movers at the beginning of the program and would find staying close to you a challenge. We do strongly encourage staying in Mom & Baby up to 8 months if possible as there tends to be more space compared to Mini Movers. NOTE: If your child has developmental mobility differences, they are certainly welcome in whatever program their age fits, skills aside.

Q: What if I have multiples?
A: We welcome and love having multiples in our programs! You pay for YOUR spot as the caregiver, not the number of children attending, for all programs except Travelling Tots (2-4 years).

Q: What if I want to participate in two different programs with two different children? Is there a discount?
A: Yes! Those joining multiple different programs during the same round (ex: Mini Movers PLUS Travelling TotsMom to Be, or Mom & Baby) can apply coupon code MULTICLASSBONUS10 to save $10! Apply during the same transaction with both products OR to the second product if purchasing separately/later. If a class gets cancelled, the refund will be revoked on the cancelled program. This does NOT apply to previous+current programs that are consecutive rounds.

Q: Can I attend just a few classes?
A: Single sessions are not available. A huge focus of our program is community-building, which can only be created when a group is consistent from start to finish. We understand things come up and you may not be able to attend all classes, but you should plan to/be able to attend when you sign up. If you know you will miss more than 2 classes (for example, due to a trip) we encourage not taking up a program spot and waiting for the next round.

Q: Can I join a program after the start date?
A: If there are any spaces remaining after a program begins, you can join late! The cost will be adjusted for you as a sale so you can register as usual. We’ll handle the rest and get you up to speed! Once we are more than 2 weeks into a program, please reach out first before registering. You may still be able to join, but the fee will only be prorated up to 2 classes.

Q: Is it just for moms? Can my partner attend?
A: For our Mini Movers and Travelling Tots programs, ANY (ideally primary) caregiver/parent can attend with baby. This is often the mom, but we do love to welcome dads/partners/grandparents as well to these groups as they tend to be more of a play group social compared to the Mom & Baby program.

Q: How many parents are in each class?
A: We aim to keep classes around 12 participants at a time to foster a cozy, community feel. This may be more (up to 16) or less (as few as 8), depending on a program’s demand and format, but we do our best to stick to the sweet spot!

Q: When will I find out the schedule of topics/activities? Are the class types/activities guaranteed?
A: You will receive an official schedule before your session begins. A tentative agenda is available above, but is subject to change. We cannot guarantee that a particular activity will be a part of any given session. Class topics change from session to session for variety and are subject to local experts’ availability. We can, however, promise you a great mix of things!

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Please note, registration cancellations are subject to a $30 administration fee, if applicable. View our full cancellation policy here. A minimum of 8 participants are needed in order to run this class. In the event that we need to cancel due to low registration, you will receive a full refund. You will be given the opportunity to be placed on the waitlist for the next series.
