A Dress Up Themed Birthday Party

Every year I rack my brain around what to do for my little girl’s birthday party. Now I am not a very crafty/creative person so I do my best to plan something easy but somewhat creative. This year I decided her birthday was going to be a dress up theme. She LOVES play pretend and dressing up plus with it being so close to Halloween I thought it was a great idea. Thanks to many hours of online research aka Pinterest I was able to create the dress up theme.

I was also lucky enough to have large boxes in the house lying around to create a photo booth for the kids to have their picture taken while dressed up. This was an easy but fun activity that the kids were able to help with. I just used washable kids paint so they could assist, had an old roller and a couple paint brushes lying around and a way they went.

Grandparents even got involved in the festivities!!

Next was the restaurant/snack shack. My kids love pretending to be like adults and serve us food so creating a mini restaurant/snack shack was my next task. There were tons of elaborate restaurant themed ideas on Pinterest but I kept it simple by cutting two windows in a large box and then painting. Voila done!! Kiddies again helped painting it and we even created menus. Inside of the snack shack was a mini check out counter, cash register and pretend food. Perfect amenities for their Snack Shack.

During the party there were many different wardrobe changes and play pretend to keep them occupied on the rainy day. Whenever they’d start to get a little antsy we’d send them downstairs for another costume change. They loved coming upstairs, showing off their new costume and taking a picture in front of the photo booth.

Overall the party was a success, there were minimal tears which is a lot for a 4 year olds party, lots of laughs and smiles. My point to this blog is that even if you think you are not creative (like myself) you can still make something up that your child will love! It was fun and they had fun so that’s all that matters.
