Cute Poppy Craft

11/04/2013

November 11th is Remembrance Day. A day we celebrate brave soldiers past, present and future. A lot of us wear our Poppy on our jackets and sweaters, but want something a little less “pokey”  for your toddler? Check out this fun quick craft of stuff you likely have in the house already!

What you need:

  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • Red felt
  • Buttons

Grab some red felt and cut out a couple roughly drawn shapes. Mine here look a little more like clovers, but putting the two together gives them more of a poppy look. I’m crafty, not artistic!

poppy6Next I cut some holes in the middle of them. So I didn’t poke myself (or if teaching a little person not to poke themselves) just fold the flower and make a cut mark in the middle a little bit.

PoppyPut your folded pipe cleaner through the hole.

poppy2I then just bent the tip down a bit and hot glued it in place.

poppy3Don’t mind my messiness. I then let the toddler pick a button she liked and I hot glued it on.

poppy4My two and a half year old was maybe a bit little to do any of the complex cutting or hot glueing, but she watched and picked her own button and loved it. She got to help me twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together also.  And of course enjoy them!

poppy5Don’t forget to still stop by somewhere and make a donation to The Poppy Fund and pick up your poppy!
