Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair Review

12/08/2013

I could not wait to get this high chair for review! I got it just a bit after starting solids with babe number 2 and I was already hating the traditional high chair in my kitchen. We kind of have the room for it, but not much extra space, not to mention I hated how it didn’t exactly “add to the decor”. Here is a picture of my 6 month old about to have her first meal in the high chair. You may be wondering why the banana and where the spoon is. Well we do Baby Lead Weaning. You can read all about my experience in THIS POST.

Banana

The high chair came the evening before but I had a toddler with the flu so I never got to setting it up. The next morning it was breakfast time and I wanted to use the new space saver high chair. Thankfully it was a quick snap here and there, clip or two and we were set!

Things I love about this high chair:

  • The large tray. Right now she isn’t AS messy, but as they grow they like to squish around all the food and try and drop it off the sides. With it being a bigger tray like this, they are less likely to drop it off the sides.

Oatmeal

  • SOOOOOO easy to clean. The tray is super easy to clean with a wipe down in the sink and dries quickly. Also the fabric part of the chair comes off really easy so you can pop it off and wipe it down or throw it into the washing machine. Something I know is either difficult to do or not designed to do on other high chairs. Especially when you do baby lead weaning, this is a very important feature.
  • The design of the chair. It’s more like a bucket seat style so they sit in it better. It kind of curves instead of a flat piece for them to sit on. This is important for when they haven’t mastered sitting skills quite yet.
  • That is of course saves me space. I don’t need the high chair taking up a bunch of room. We bought a foldable one for our first baby, but even then storing the folded chair was a pain, so it was out all the time anyways. 3 meals a day of folding and putting away a chair? I don’t think so.
  • The tray conveniently has handles on either side to put it on and lock it or to lift it up. From a mom that has accidentally squished babes fingers with the sliding style try, I can honestly say this is a super feature! The front piece is also a single hand release, good for lifting the tray and holding babe/plate/spoon/cloth etc.

Tray

  • The tray also fits nicely into the empty chair straight up and down to save even more space!
  • It can be used for a long time. Our first high chair we used for a while yes, but then when she grew more into a toddler we bought a booster seat style because she wasn’t big enough for a regular chair. So when I bought a cheaper style high chair I really didn’t save the money I thought I was going to anyways!!! This goes from baby to a booster seat for the toddler.
  • The seat reclines back. Not a feature I used exactly. To be honest I was a bit confused at first. Wondering why would it recline back? That can’t be a great feeding position, even for a babe on rice cereal at 4 months. Then it hit me. having baby reclined back to drink a bottle! Having baby included in dinner time is important, and if they aren’t on solids yet, this is a great way to incorporate them!

back

The only thing I would change is there is a piece at the bottom at the back that sticks out a bit too much. I think this is for the leaning back function of the chair and/or maybe stability. If you don’t have a chair with a space between the seat and the back of the chair it will make the high chair stick out a bit extra. Not a huge deal in our space, but I watch those shows were people make homes out of 400 sq feet!

Overall I LOVE this high chair and wish I had it for my first too. I’ve seen them on barstool style chairs, parson and wood chairs too. Yay for everyone being able to use it!!!
