The New Munchkin LATCH System!

One of our mommas had the opportunity to test and review the new LATCH bottle system from Munchkin! Here is what she thought!

With many types of bottles on the market I find the munchkin latch bottle to have numerous features that sets it apart from its competitors. Not only is it ergonomic to hold but it also has innovative features that allows the baby to latch in a similar fashion as they do when latching to the mothers breast.

When you first look at the latch bottle, a few unique features are immediately observed.

The first being the blue valve at the bottom of this bottle. This addition to the bottle allows the baby to get a constant flow of milk without those nasty air bubbles that cause gas. It also allows the caregiver to slow down the flow of milk if they believe the baby is drinking too fast by momentarily covering the outside of the valve. This new feature seems like a no-brainer to me and I’m glad that munchkin has created such a wonderful and easy to clean valve system.

The second most interesting feature on the new latch bottle is the nipple itself. It has a large base and a long nipple that allows the baby to latch similarly to being on the breast. I found this to be completely true as when my son uses the bottle. I was fascinated watching him on the bottle as the flexibility of the nipple encouraged him to latch correctly with flanged lips and a deep latch similar to how he does when he is on my breast. He was even able to move his head around and snuggle into me without unlatching off the bottle.

I found the best thing about this new nipple was that my son transitioned very smoothly between the bottle and back to my breast without any nipple preference or confusion.

Just a quick note, if it seems that the nipple is collapsing in on itself, it is time to go up a size in the nipple. I found when my son tried the size 1 nipple, it was not a good fit but when we moved up a size he was able to latch and transfer the milk efficiently.

Bonus points for munchkin as they also have created adapters so that the bottle can be directly pumped into. This makes collecting and storing milk just so much simpler. And when the child is ready to have a sippy cup, munchkin has made one that is similar to the bottles which will make the transition even easier to a sippy cup.

This is definitely an easy to use and easy to clean system that I would recommend to any of my friends whether they were feeding occasionally, or regularly from a bottle!
