I get bored relatively quickly when it comes to breakfast and plain old oatmeal just doesn’t cut it for my toddler. So I decided to throw some simple ingredients together in the kitchen and came up with a pretty lovely Apple Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal. It requires no sugar and doesn’t waste a bunch of packaging like the individually packaged “organic” oatmeals I used to buy. Sheesh. So much easier to make from scratch. Trust me.
If you follow my blog, you know my recipes are all about “abouts”. No measurements here. Just go with your gut.
Ingredients
3/4 cup oats or steel cut oats
1 1/2 cups whole milk or milk and water
1/2 apple chopped
handful of raisins
splash of maple syrup
cinnamon
* try adding unsweetened flaked coconut, chopped nuts and/or a few chocolate chips to change things up a bit
1. Cook oats and milk according to package. I usually turn heat on medium high until things start to bubble then let it simmer for 5 minutes or so until it thickens.
2. I usually add all the rest of my ingredients when the oatmeal is almost finished cooking.
You cannot go wrong with this “recipe”, regardless of how much you add or how you cook it.
This is the perfect sugar-free breakfast or snack and is super easy to make!
Enjoy!
