Tangles No More: How My Daughter Finally Started Letting Me Brush Her Curly Hair

IMG_9125Do you have a child with a head full of curly locks? Do you struggle with brushing your child’s hair? Does your child refuse to let you brush his or her hair because it hurts or takes too long? Have you heard yourself promising to give your child a haircut if she doesn’t let you brush her hair?

You are not alone . . .

I was literally at my wit’s end, promising haircuts and storming out of rooms after my daughter refused time and time again to let me brush her hair. For some reason it didn’t occur to me over these past several months – years even –  that there had to be some tools out there that could make the process pain and stress-free. Bedtime with kids is tough enough without a hair-brushing showdown.

Grandma, aka Bama, suggested that I find a brush more suited for curly hair that didn’t pull too much; clearly I wasn’t the only parent having this problem. I also decided, since my daughter’s hair is incredibly long, curly and prone to tangles, to try to make or find a spray-on detangler.

IMG_9134 (2)After going through several duds, we finally found the perfect brush that got the tangles out without yanking her hair – I rarely ever hear a peep while brushing her hair now. I also found an amazing non-toxic spray-on detangler that we use after each bath and before brushing her hair. The best part, if I hear an “ouch” while I’m brushing her hair, I just add a little more “magic spray” and my daughter continues to LET ME brush her hair!!! Incredible!

Here’s what works for us: a Wet Brush I found at my hair salon and a Miracle Detangler I discovered at a baby store. We call them the magic brush and magic spray and my 3 year old loves them! I even let her spray from time to time.

If you have been struggling like I was for so long, don’t give up! Find a brush or comb made for curly or tangled hair and find or make a “magic” detangler.

Leave tangles behind and your sanity intact.
