| How many calories do you burn in a day? What is your metabolic rate? How efficient is your body at burning fat for energy? Researchers at the University of Alberta are inviting new mothers to participate in a study to help answer these questions. Our research facility is equipped with a Whole Body Unit. Only 2 such units are available in Canada (see photo and additional information below). To participate, you must be: • between 18 and 40 years old with no significant health concerns, For more information, please contact Leticia at: (780) 492-4182 or radinper@ ualberta.ca * The calorimetry unit is a small climate controlled room, housed in the Clinical Research Unit on the second floor of the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation, at the University of Alberta. This room is equipped with a bed, treadmill, TV, computer, chair, table, sink and toilet. All meals are provided. Participants will live in this comfortable room for 24 hours and their total energy expenditure will be calculated based on natural breathing patterns (oxygen consumed and carbon dioxide produced). |
