The Summer Baby Touch WiFi monitor is a multi-platform system that allows you to keep an eye on your baby whether you are at home or away from home. The viewing monitor has a 3.5 inch high resolution color LCD video display and the infrared LEDs it has allows picture quality to be great even when the room is dark! We were really impressed with the picture quality, especially in comparison to our old monitor, which became very dark and fuzzy as the room got darker! From the touch screen monitor, you can pan the camera in all 4 directions manually and zoom in for a better look at baby while they are sleeping. There is a motion tracking feature that, when enabled, is supposed to follow your baby as he or she becomes more mobile in the crib, but this was one feature that I was not very impressed with. I enabled this setting when my husband was in the room walking around with the baby and the camera would move but it would not move to the right position to follow my husband’s movements. On the upside, because the camera viewing area is so large and because you can pan the camera manually, I don’t miss not having the motion detection. There is also a temperature gauge on the monitor which tells you how warm the room is, which we thought was a really neat feature! The Baby Touch WiFi allows for 2 way communication between the camera and the monitor, which we don’t use for our baby yet, but we did try it out as a ‘walkie-talkie’ between myself and my husband and the voices are very clear! I can see where this feature may be useful once we have a toddler and need to tell them to get back to bed!
One of the features that we like the best so far is the ability to connect it to our iPhones through WiFi. It was really easy to do and goes through the set up step-by-step in the instructions. The picture on the phone is really clear and you are able to pan and zoom in just like you can from the monitor! A few months ago I had mentioned to my husband that I wish our baby monitor can take pictures because our baby does some pretty adorable things while in her crib, and much to my excitement you CAN take pictures and videos with the remote access on your phone and it saves directly into your photos! There has been one time that the APP would not connect to the monitor while on WiFi, but for the most part it has worked perfectly whenever we have tried it.
For me personally, the only thing I would change about this monitor is that it does not go to ‘sleep’ when there is no movement or sound in the room. Our old monitor used to stop transmitting the sound and picture when baby was sleeping, and turn back on if she moved or made a sound. The Summer Baby Touch WiFi Monitor only turns the picture off if it is not on the charger, but otherwise stays on. You do have the option to turn off the viewing screen, which we do at night when we are going to bed, but the sound continues the entire time. I would not really call this a negative, more just a preference for something we had gotten used to and like because our daughter has a humidifier in her room so I hear this running while she is sleeping.
Overall we really like the Summer Baby Touch WiFi Monitor and would recommend it to anyone who is looking at purchasing a new monitor! It has replaced our old monitor for sure and it is a big step up!
Overview:
Pros: Easy set up; WiFi viewing on your phone with the ability to toggle, take pictures and video; toggling the camera (side to side and zoom); great picture, even in low light; temperature reading
Cons: monitor/sound doesn’t go to sleep when baby is quiet/not moving; some minor interference with the sound; the motion feature did not work well for us
