Review: Munchkin SmartCover Infant Car Seat Cover

Three short months ago my family welcomed our second child – a little boy that we named Felix. Besides for the need to buy all the boy clothes that we would need (our first is a girl), we decided to also buy a new car seat. Since we live in Canada and the weather is constantly changing from one hour to the next, a car seat cover is always needed. This is where the SmartCover Infant Car Seat Cover came into play.

We are a family that loves to be outside whenever we can! As previously mentioned, we are stuck inside 6 months of the year so we take every opportunity we can to go to the park, go for walks, go swimming/spray park and just be in our own backyard. Plus, when I am not pregnant or recovering from having a C-section, I play quite a bit of slo-pitch from May-September.

What I love most about this car seat cover is that it has a mesh, breathable layer that allows air and cross breezes to reach where my little guy is snoozing away. It zips completely closed or you can have it partially zipped and completely open to the air so you can access your baby. The opening to access my baby is nice and wide so there is no need to remove the car seat cover in any way to take him out or put him in his seat. It is also safe to use with all car seats as it fits OVER your car seat (with thick no-slip elastic) and does not interfere with the car seat straps in any way – there is no part of the cover between the car seat and your baby.

For the days that it is chillier or the seasons have changed and dreaded winter is here, there is a second layer that zips up to keep baby warm. This layer is warm and fuzzy on the inside and is completely independent from the mesh layer. To clarify, I mean that you can use just the mesh later without needing the warm layer – you will not be able to use the warm layer though without the mesh zipped up as well. When not using it, you can leave the warm layer tucked away into the very handy storage pocket until you need it!

The last handy little feature that is nice is it has its own independent canopy attached to shield baby from the sun. Babies skin is so sensitive and they can’t wear sunscreen for the first 6 months, so the canopy addition was very smart on Munchkin’s part.

I love everything about this car seat cover! It’s so nice to be able to leave a cover on the car seat continually and not have to remove it for any purpose. If my baby needs to be changed or he’s crying, I can take him out without hindrance. If he is cold, I can zip up the warm layer. If he is hot, I can use just the mesh layer and protect him even more with the attached canopy. I get compliments on it almost every time we leave the house and questions on where to get it.
