It’s all about giving back…

Just this week, I lost a dear friend to a long battle with cancer.  She was only 29 years old.  She was diagnosed with the deadly disease about 10 years ago, but in those 10 years, she did not spend one moment regretting her life; rather, she lived to make every day the best.  She was always so positive and was often the cheerleader in others’ stories of pain.  She never spoke of her illness and only focused on the bright future ahead of her.  She accomplished so many dreams in her life including graduating from college, becoming a flight attendant and being an amazing aunt, godmother and fiancé.  Her perseverance, strength and courage went well beyond those living in healthy bodies free of pain or problems.  When you asked her how she was feeling, she was always quick to cover off the basics and then focused her attention on you and your family.  Her smile was contagious and her attitude was always optimistic.  Her resiliency has taught me a true life lesson – to never give up and to always see the positive in every situation because life is so precious.  So many others are in pain in this world and we need to be so thankful for all we have and the exceptional people around us.

In a recent post, I indicated that I would be choosing a “Charity of Choice” for 2015 in which part of the proceeds from Mommy Connections London programs and events will go back to our community.  My decision was an easy one after having to say goodbye to a great friend just days ago. Mommy Connections London is proud to announce that it’s charity of choice for 2015 is the Canadian Cancer Society.  Unfortunately, cancer affects all of us – children, women and men.  Every little push forward counts and we need to keep pushing.

This year’s charity of choice was selected in honour and memory of Amanda Allen – the strongest and most amazing woman I know.
