I realize now, after a year of learning and experiencing life at home with my daughter, that having a child is more about you then about the baby. Pre and post-natal support and care for new moms is critical and since having my little one, I now know how amazing our community is and how many wonderful supports and great resources are out there that should be taken advantage of. This is my motivation and mission as Director of Mommy Connections London – to help bring important information for expecting and new parents to help make a smooth and educated transition into parenthood.
Mommy Connections London welcomes Dr. Jen Paterson to our community. I want to virtually introduce you to her. Here are a few words from Dr. Paterson to learn a little more about her, her practice and how she can help you and your family.
“I am extremely excited to be a part of the Mommy Connections community. As a chiropractor interested in prenatal and chiropractic care, I couldn’t think of a better organization to team up with! I recently graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), while I was there I found my passion for pregnancy and pediatric care. Since then, I have become an active member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and have become certified in the Webster technique; a specific chiropractic technique tailored towards the needs of pregnant individuals.
In my practice I treat a variety of ailments including: acute, chronic, and overuse injuries, prenatal and postnatal conditions, and neonatal/pediatric conditions. Individualized care is the foundation of my practice, and is shaped by the most current research, my personal clinical experience, and the preference of the patient. In addition to the manual therapy I currently provide. I am currently enrolled in a Medical Acupuncture course at McMaster University, where I will be fully certified beginning of December to provide acupuncture!
Why am I so interested in prenatal care? It is very rewarding being a part of someone’s pregnancy. Being able to remove discomfort and pain, while allowing the baby to grow in optimal space, for a safe delivery, is extremely gratifying.
I will never forget my first pregnant patient. She entered the clinic with great difficulty walking, discomfort with many movements, pain in her back and down into her buttock. After examining her, her sacroiliac joint was very locked up, shifting her pelvis and reducing any motion through her pelvis and hips, thus creating torsion in her ligaments, which decreases space for the baby to grow. I was able to adjust her low back and pelvis to create balance between her joints, muscles and ligaments. Allowing her to walk pain free, sit to stand with ease and create the optimal position for her pelvis for pregnancy. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and she was grateful for the role chiropractic care played in her pregnancy. From that experience forward I was confident, this was the niche I want to specialize in.
Pediatric care is a topic I love to educate parents about. As birth is a very stressful event for the baby, it is important to look for signs of discomfort in the child. Things such as colic, difficulty latching, flat spot of their head, digestive issues or always turning their head one way.
I am excited to see where my new journey here in London takes me and I look forward to supporting moms and babies in the community!”
