When I was offered the opportunity to do a product review on HelloFresh I was so excited. I don’t love cooking and meal planning every single night, so the idea that a recipe and all the ingredients show up at my house was very appealing to me. If all I have to do is open a box and follow the instructions, how could I possibly go wrong? With HelloFresh, you can order a pronto box or a family box. We had the family box, which was more than enough for our family of four. You just have to look at the menu and decide what to order. As it says on their website, “Chef curated recipes based on seasonal farm fresh ingredients delivered to your doorstep every week,” and that is exactly how the process worked! The awesome part was the meals that we chose were things that I’ve never tried before, so was it’s a great chance to try something different outside of your normal recipe routine.
The food is so fresh – when the package arrived it was actually a cooler inside of a box. In the bottom were ice packs where all the meat was kept and on top were smaller labelled boxes totally sealed all the dry ingredients for each separate meal. You literally cannot mess this up – the package comes with a recipe card and everything already measured out. Most of the ingredients were chopped and came with fresh herbs. I actually picked thyme right off the stem, which was new to me as I have never done that before. It was a pretty empowering experience. I felt like it was time for me to really impress my husband and cook him a great meal. He was super impressed!
We started with the cowboy style sausage because it has mashed potatoes in it and you can’t really mess up mashed potatoes. My son loves mashed potatoes so I thought it was a safe one to start with. It was almost like a little date for my husband and I to make this one because we spent time together in the kitchen having fun cooking while our kids played. It took less than an hour to make an amazing meal. The instructions are very clear and the best part was I did not have to cut the onion!
Now the big question: did Hello Fresh pass the toddler test? It totally did passed with flying colours! I couldn’t believe how much our three-year-old ate! He loved the fact that he could be a part of it by helping a bit with the preparation. It was a total mommy win!
I have to say I think that it would probably take me longer to pack my kids up and head over to a drive through and come home to eat the food then it took us to make these meals. So what would it mean for you and your family if you could skip the junkie fast food and work together and cook these fresh, healthy meals and then sit down together and eat a nice, healthy, satisfying dinner every night? For us it meant the world. There are not a lot of times where we get the chance to sit down and have dinner together so not having to find a recipe, grocery shop, cut everything and then cook was incredible. We got to spend that special hour together cooking and then enjoying dinner.
The only negative thing I can possibly think of for Hello Fresh was the fact that I could not make my dinner on my plate look as beautifully presented as it did on the recipe card! The food tasted amazing, prep was super easy and if I can cook it, so can you!
