Summer Time Activities: Natural Materials

07/27/2017

Summer for parents is hard, what do you mean we have to keep the kids occupied 7 days a week, all day? Why can’t school be all year round? But as fast as summer starts, summer is over and we miss them so much. So how can we make summer a little bit easier on parents but a lot of fun for the kids?

Heres how:

  1. Use materials you have around your house and let your children explore them (with supervision of course). Children are natural learners and are curious to learn. For example: cut lemons, oranges and limes in half and use them as stamps. Dip them in paint and you have a really cool citrus craft.
  2. Go on a hike with your children, these are perfect as they take up a good chunk of your day. Bring a bag and collect different items they find during their walk; rocks, sticks, leaves. Bring them home and use the rocks as a balancing activity, sort them into different piles or make crafts with the different leaves and sticks they found.
  3. Create a colour scavenger hunt. Have the children on a walk or even in your backyard find things that are on your list and attach them to the page. This activity is perfect for parent child bonding and to spark creativity in your children.
