Natasha from Type A Events

Welcome back to Feature Friday! Today I’d like to welcome Natasha. Natasha is an event planner for all sorts of events. Again thank you, Natasha, for telling us a little bit about yourself and your business!

How do you help people?

I help people plan their special day and create a wonderful memory for them with a memorable event.  Sometimes it’s a festival, a special ball, a fundraiser for a worthy cause, a wedding, a wedding or baby shower, an anniversary – whatever the special moment is I am honoured to have been a part of their moment.

What’s your favourite part about what you do?

My favourite part is the “Wow” moment where I look around and see only the participants happiness and awe.  Example – fireworks at a festival. Watching all the families who came out to look up at the night sky and enjoy an awesome night show or the bride walking down the aisle towards her groom and the family all take a deep breath.  That moment always gives me goosebumps and I feel proud to have been able to create that moment for the people involved.

What are some of your hobbies?

I have 4 children and a partner who has 2 children.  So together that’s 6 children and we are always trying to make life great for them.  The next project we have is to build a swing set.  This weekend we are going to the science centre.  Life is busy – and hobbies don’t happen but every free moment I have I spend with them making their memories great too.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I work (like most do in small business) in 2 jobs.  Job one is going on 20 years now, so I will retire in about 7 years and start to run only my business full time.  Building it is my goal over the next 5 years so I can get there and do what I love full time.  When I retire from my full-time job I hope to have a viable and large business that keeps me working year round.  Cross fingers!  It is growing bigger and better every day.  In my first year of business, I made $3000.  In my second, I’ve more than made 9 times that.  If I can keep up with that trajectory my 7-year plan is doable!

What was the hardest part about creating your business?

My business creation was an attempt to make extra money with the skills that I had after a lengthy and expensive divorce where I found myself in a large debt situation.  The hardest part was “starting over ” and this business was a part of that restart.  I’ve learned throughout the years that I am capable, I’m good at what I do and have I the skills to do it.  Being your own person – not relying on anyone else, and being that person who is successful and achieving that success all by yourself is so empowering and rewarding more than anything you can ever imagine. I always wanted more for myself and I gave myself what I needed and in turn, it turned out to be the best decision for me and my family.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Just a big thank you to all who have supported this small business.  I cherish the moments, the memories and the friendships.
