Dominique from Body Mind Yoga Wellness

08/31/2018

Welcome back to our Feature Friday session! Today we have Dominique who is a yoga instructor. She currently owns her own business in Lambeth. Again thank you, Dominique, for your contributions and let’s read all about her and her business!

How do you help people?

I am Dominique and I am a Personal Training, Yoga Teacher, and the owner of Body Mind Yoga in Lambeth, ON. I provide Private and Small Group Yoga and fitness classes. Keeping my classes smaller in size allows me to customize them to the individual needs of my students. I help pregnant and current moms of all ages cultivate life balance through mobility, strength and self-care. Beginning with foundations in Core and Pelvic Health Function to facilitate growth towards individual goals, gaining mindful awareness, and a greater appreciation of their body.

What’s your favourite part about what you do?

The “ah-ha” moments, for instance, when a student reaches a milestone and overcomes pain/discomfort that they otherwise thought they would have to live with; when they reach a fitness goal they thought was simply beyond their capability, and even the progressions made with mobility and strength in a single yoga session! Plus I get to hang out with babies… a lot.

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies are a bit more scattered than I would like right now being a mom to 4 (12, 10, 2 and 7 months). I love movement of all kinds. I read a wide variety of books from fiction to educational (I love learning). We do “Paint Nights” with the kids. Random Day Trips. And of course a good old fashioned Netflix binge.

What piece of advice would you give mothers?

Enjoy what you can of every moment. You are the perfect mama for your baby. It’s ok to be overwhelmed, we all are – even though we never show off the tough times. Motherhood is not easy and you are in a constant state of transition to becoming someone brand new. So take the time to bask in the little moments of joy, the smiles, laughs and little giggles.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Continuing to learn and evolve my fitness and yoga practice, organically, with quality offerings. As humans, we are constantly evolving and I am excited to see where my passions for health and fitness lead to next – I am certainly not the instructor I was when I first started in 2010. Aside from that – I can’t give away all of my secrets! So stay tuned!

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Go see a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist. Rest, Recover, Rehab and Retrain before heading back to chase down that “pre-baby body”. Find someone who specializes in Prenatal and Postnatal – there is so much misinformation and social pressure, that too many are skipping the attention that a new mother’s Core and Pelvic Floor require beyond her 6-week appointment. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have.
