Making some Instruments!

09/17/2018

My littlest one loves to make noise. In fact, she’s really into musical noise. Whenever any type of music comes on she gets so excited. Because of this interest, I decided to help make some homemade musical instruments with her.

Over this past weekend, we created tin drums, which were fairly easy and fairly inexpensive to create. We made different sizes of tin drums to create different sounds which my daughter absolutely loved. To make the drums, you’ll need cans, a can opener that doesn’t leave sharp edges, balloons (I personally used 7inch balloons on the smaller cans and 9inch balloons on larger cans), and rubber bands. if you have empty cans that’s even better!

To make a drum, take the top off a can using the can opener, remove the contents (if needed), and wash and dry the can. Then cut the bottom off a balloon and stretch it tight over the open top of the can. Secure the balloon with a rubber band, and your drum is ready to play!
