Safety in the Kitchen

09/28/2018

Cooking isn’t only fun for children, but it is an opportunity for learning as well. These safety guidelines will help to avoid accidents and keep the activity fun and safe.

Here are some tips to remain safe in the kitchen…

  • Always wash hands with soap and water before and after handling food
  • Always supervise children while they are preparing food. YOU decide who can use what equipment. Make sure to show them how to use that equipment safely
  • Wash and sanitize utensils and working surfaces after handling raw food and before contact with cooked or ready to serve foods
  • Tie hair back and avoid wearing baggy clothing near stover
  • Review recipes with children and explain anything they may not understand
  • Teach your children STOP, DROP, and ROLL

Kitchen safety is important. Not only does it protect you and your children from an accident, but it also keeps the night fun and safe.
