Tell us about The Sweet Mama Co:

The Sweet Mama Co was inspired by Motherhood, perfectly imperfect! We customize and create cake popsicles for all occasions. Imagine a slice of cake eaten like a popsicle, designed and decorated with your favourite toppings. No dishes required (a Mamas dream!!).  We have created everything from a 1st birthday to a 92nd birthday, from local Burlington companies anniversary parties to “just for fun” treats, baby showers too! We offer boxed sets or individually wrapped cake popsicles. No order is ever the same!

What inspired you to start this business?

I have always loved cooking in the kitchen (learnt this from my own Mama) and being creative (got this from my Dad). I am also a High School Teacher, one of my subjects being Food & Nutrition. When the global pandemic and lockdowns kept me at home with a toddler, I knew I needed a creative outlet to help keep me sane. I started making friends and families custom sugar cookies to celebrate their special occasions and it slowly turned into experimenting and trusting my unique ideas. Bringing people treats and seeing their smiles really uplifted me to keep going! This business has helped my mental shift so much and I am proud of myself for trusting myself to start something new!

What is your favourite thing about running a bakery?

I love that each order is unique! This allows me to be creative, think outside the box and have fun all at the same time. It is so rewarding to see my clients’ ideas, turn to a plan on paper, turn into a reality for them to enjoy!

Conversely, what’s your least favourite thing about running a bakery?

My least favourite thing about running a bakery is the leftovers! So many temptations! But at the end of the day, if a treat brings happiness, I’m all for it!
