5 Fave Libraries

02/28/2019

My name is Erin. I’m a toddler mom and a pup mom. I had my son in May of 2016. Becoming a mom was the scariest thing I’ve ever done, and I have loved every moment of it. I am a stay at home writing mom. I write everyday after my son goes to bed. My partner occasionally works away from home. When he’s home, we spend as much family time together as possible, and when he’s gone, I practice my Solo Mom Life. Life isn’t always easy, but I try to be as grateful as I can. My son helps with that. You can find my blog at thewritingmomma.ca or follow me on Instagram and Facebook at thewritingmommalife

I wrote about my favourite places in to take my toddler in Saskatoon, and I mentioned libraries, but wasn’t specific about which ones. As I said before, this is a free place for your kids to learn and play. I recommend trying out all of them to see which one suits your family the best. We have five favourites.

Libraries are very important to me. I want my son to grow up loving books, and I want him to see me loving books. I want him to grow up knowing a library is an amazing place to visit.

First of all, all of the libraries have a kid’s area, and storytime, as well as resources for kids. I would be happy going to any of them.  I do have some favourites though. Of course, this is also based on what my son enjoys. Basically, he enjoys places that have toy diggers and dump trucks. Although we’ve been to a couple places that don’t, and they’ve worked out. These all have rooms for story telling, dance parties, or puppet shows.

I did a tour the other day to make sure I went to every library. I wanted to see which my son would love the best. I like to go to different places with him, and like the idea of not going to the same library every time.

  • Frances Morrison Library: 311 23rd Street East This is the library downtown in the central location. I’d say the only thing I don’t love about this library is that we have to pay for parking. I love the downtown area though so parking is just something we have accepted. I love how big this library is. I love going there by myself, and finding a corner to write. I also love taking my son there. The kid’s area is upstairs and it’s huge and wonderful. It has tons of books, and a play area surrounded with windows. Anthony heads right over to the climb the benches and look outside when we get there.
  • Round Prairie Library: 170-250 Hunter Rd This is the library in Stonebridge (the Preston side of Stonebridge.) I love this one. It’s got a whole separate room for kids to read and play. It’s got another room for kids to play with lego and colour. The library itself is big and bright.
  • Mayfair Branch Library: 602 33rd Street West This library is smaller than the two I’ve written about, but it’s got a great kid’s corner, and my kiddo just makes himself at home. It’s another one with benches around the area so he can climb to the top and read, or play with the toys. The biggest problem with this one (and all of them) is getting him to leave.
  • J.S. Wood Library: 1801 Lansdowne Ave This is another great one. The library is great. The library is bigger with a nice big kid’s area. This one is a bit farther away from where I live, but I really liked it. I also find seperate seats for parents to sit appealing. I can read (or try to read) while my son plays.

  • Rusty Macdonald Branch: 225 Primrose Dr We discovered this one the other day. It’s got a play kitchen and an area with puzzles like they have at J. S. Wood Library. My kiddo loved playing with the kitchen and the puzzles. He brought me food to eat while I sat and read for a bit. He brought me books, and we read them together. The area is at the front of the library, although I heard that they’re making a whole new area for the kids. I look forward to seeing it. A bonus to this library is it’s attached to a Civic centre, so we can also go swimming after. It’s a pretty great one.
