Thank you for 30 Seconds of You Time – Mommy Blogger

07/22/2018

I’m a 24-year-old wife and new mom to our daughter “Baby G”, as I refer to her in my blogs.  She is the new adventure in our marriage and the smile bringer to our everyday.  She is the main character in my stories lately, as she teaches me something new every day.  I love writing about her and the everyday happenings of mommy life, so I’m extremely excited to join this blogging group!

To the woman who waits patiently at the library while Little G carefully places each book into the return slot on her own.  Thank you.  To the group of people in the elevator with us who let her use her newly acquired skills to press the right buttons for everybody.  Thank you.  To the grocery teller who takes the time to ask her directly how old she is, and patiently gives her a chance to hold up her single little pointer finger.  Thank you.  To the speed walker in the mall who resists taking two steps at a time down the escalator because we block the way, now that she proudly stands on her own, holding only my hand. Thank you.  To the fellow shopper in the store who takes the time to look Little G in the eyes and say hi, and tells her she has pretty shoes, evoking a delighted grin only a one year old can give. Thank you.  These snippets of the day may go unremembered to you.  Or, they may be minor annoyances in a crazy schedule.  I apologize.  But these little, 30-second moments, mean the world to my daughter and to me.

Every time someone looks her in the eyes and talks to her as the real, special little human she, amongst all children, is, it builds her confidence and helps her to develop into the positive little member of society we all want our kids to become.  When she gets the chance to perform a task like pressing the walk button at a cross walk or hands the teller our Airmiles card at the store, she learns and builds self-esteem.  These little moments help make her who she is, and only happen by the kind-heartedness of society.

To the person who gets annoyed and frustrated when she takes two tries to push the right button, or decides to sit down in the doorway because the bag she insisted on carrying out of the grocery store gets too heavy, I’m sorry.  I completely and totally understand that we are a hold-up at times.  I totally get that you’re probably thinking, “Pick the kid up already and get moving”.  I understand, and I am tempted by the same thoughts.  As a mom, I try my best to gage social situations and find a balance between the good of the fellow mall patrons, and the good of little G.  But being her mom is my job.  Teaching her and helping her to become the most confident, joyful, and independent little person possible is what I do.

So thank you for 30 seconds of your time.  Thanks for helping to build her confidence and for helping her see the world as a happy place.  These little moments are just another reason to love being a mom so darn much.
