08/27/2013

Mommy Connections is proud to have formed a national partnership with Postpartum Depression Awareness Project (PPDA). With this  partnership in supporting moms and families with perinatal mood disorders, we are hoping to reach an even larger percentage of Canadians with our message of support.

Who is PPDA: Postpartum Depression Awareness Ltd.?

PPDA is a registered non-profit organization devoted to increasing awareness and resources for postpartum depression and perinatal mood disorders, and helping individuals & families get the support they need. Together, these two organizations have the potential of reaching, supporting & educating a great many Canadian Families!

With each step PPDA is increasing Awareness! Throughout the year PPDA holds a variety of Awareness Events with the aim of Educating the public, including our annual January Awareness Month and annual 5km Walk in June!

PPDA has many resource related projects in the works to support those affected by Perinatal Mood Disorders. Our biggest resource is an extensive website which lists a wide variety of information available for Perinatal Mood Disorders across Western Canada. PPDA has also developed a comprehensive Support Group program!
Our Mandate is to fill the gap, and connect sufferers of perinatal mood disorders with service providers!

Postpartum Depression and Perinatal Mood Disorders affect approximately 15 – 30% of Moms within the first year of giving birth. It is believed that this statistic is in fact much higher as so many Moms do not come forward. The majority of these Moms do not get help for a variety of reasons: either they go undiagnosed, are unable to find help, or never come forward because of the stigma attached to PPD & PMD’s. Through Awareness and Education we can change this stigma and make it easier to find help. Canadian Moms are raising our next generation and their mental health is of top priority!
