The idea that organic food is more superior to average mass-produced food comes from people who prefer to keep the ground safe from industrial pesticides and other substances. These harmful substances are bad not only for the soil, but for those who eat the food which grows out of there too. It is logical to think that apple which is grown organically will be healthier than the one which is sprayed with different chemicals several times a year. In support of “organic way” over non-organic goes the fact that it’s more expensive and more difficult to do, which is promising from the beginning.
Think logically
Latest research proved that organic milk for instance has more Omega 3 fatty acids and far more antioxidants than non-organic milk. Cows which produce organic milk are freely grazing fresh grass in contrast to industrial cows, which are imprisoned, kept for one and only reason – to give as much product as possible. Similarly, organically grown vegetables are free from heavy metals which can be found in industrial pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. These chemicals are retained in the bark of fruit and vegetables and their role is to repel microorganism, insects and other pests. The question is – if it’s harmful for them, why would it be good for someone’s diet?
Why is it called “organic”?
The plant ‘travels’ a long way from planting to giving fruits. Let’s assume that we are in the time before industrialization and mechanization when plants were grown in natural, uncontrolled conditions. These exact conditions are needed today to get perfectly healthy product which means: no genetically modified organism, no additives, no hormones or antibiotics, and certainly no pesticides. That’s why organic food is so expensive today – regulations are rigorous but attainable. However, this requires a lot of work and money. Luckily, a lot of effort is given to developing the production of organic vegetables so that the prices are more realistic. You can even find affordable organic food online.
Health benefits of organic food
Have you ever heard of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)? Believe it or not, it’s the sort of fatty acid which can only be found in products of animals that spent a lot of time grazing on grass. It’s similar to Omega 3 and it’s good for boosting your cardiovascular system. Not only that, but organic food is much better for your immune system than other kinds of food. Genetic engineering is still at low level of development despite its noble goals and reasons – to solve the world hunger crisis. Unfortunately, scientists haven’t managed to find the winning formula – to make genetically made food equally nutritious as organic. It is a fact that organic food makes people resilient, and according to many nutritionists, eating organic food is one way to fight cancer.
It is never too late to start thinking about the future. Do you really want your children to eat chicken burgers from genetically raised and farmed chicken? Do you want tasteless tomatoes sized like melons? Healthy diet is the key of the healthy organism – you are what you eat.
