Review: Diono RadianRXT Convertible + Booster Seat

As soon as we welcomed our third daughter to our family I knew we would shortly need to acquire another Diono car seat for our vehicle.  We already had a four-year-old and a two-year-old at home who were sitting comfortably in their Diono car seats, and were likely to need these seats for a few more years.  The greatest feature of the Diono car seat is that it’s a one-time purchase; it is honestly the only car seat you EVER need to buy!  This car seat has a 10-year product life, which is just amazing when you compare other products in the market.  A bonus for us was that these car seats line up side by side to fit three in a row in most vehicles!

-Rear-facing (5-45 lbs)

-Forward-facing (22 – 65 lbs) in a 5-point harness

I honestly have so many great things to say about this car seat. My girls are comfortable which is important and the seat is easy to install and easy to use.  It folds up in a minute making it simple to travel and store, and Diono makes backpack straps (sold separately) to help you haul it with you. It’s a bit heavy at 26 lbs so these straps are a must! The seat comes fully assembled and ready to install in your vehicle. The detachable rear-facing base is very easy to lock into the bottom of the car seat and then install.  The seat can be installed with the LATCH system or the seat belt in your vehicle. The user manual is really great at explaining how to install and shows diagrams and pictures that walk you through the process.

We all know kids come in different sizes and shapes!  My three girls were ready for car seat adjustments at different times. My 16-month-old is still riding rear-facing and my 5-year-old is still too light to legally or safely ride in a booster seat.  The Diono RXT car seat offers 12 height positions for the adjustable head support and 2 recline positions in the forward-facing mode. The harness system has 5 shoulder and 3 buckle positions to customize the fit of this car seat to your child. I recommend adjusting the harness for your child in the house prior to install.  Once the car seat is installed, it fits very snug to the seat. This is great for forward-facing mode as your toddler can get in and seated right away while you help younger children onboard.

It’s so nice to know my girls are happy in their car seats, but more importantly their car seats are the safest place for them to be for many more years to come.   In my opinion, the Diono car seats are not a car seat that transitions from child to child…every child in your family needs this car seat!  So many children’s’ products require you to purchase additional pieces to get full use out of the product. However, Diono RadianRXT models come with 1 cup holder but the seat is designed to hold up to 4!  In the first 10 years of your child’s life, you will buy, rebuy and replace so many items, but this is one product you can be confident will last and do what you purchased it to do – keep your babies safe.

But… 10 years is a long time and that’s a lot of Cheerios, goldfish and juice spills!  The Diono car seat cover comes off and it’s washable in your washing machine. Seriously, as a Mom, what an awesome feature because, let’s face it, spills happen ALL THE TIME!
