We first started noticing skin rashes and flare ups on my son when he was 2 years old. Although the dermatologist told us it was mild eczema, he would scratch until his skin would become raw. And as the weather got cooler and we started to run the furnace, his skin irritation and dryness would worsen.
We learned many tips and tricks to help, including lukewarm baths, putting a humidifier in his room in the winter months, using only gentle skin cleansers without harsh ingredients, and of course, keeping his skin moisturized. The treatment of eczema is really a regimen, and use of an appropriate emollient is integral part of eczema management.
Moisturizers and skin protectants help soften the texture of skin and relieve severe itching caused by excessive dryness. Moisturizers also add a protective layer that helps keep the skin hydrated and helps protect the skin from irritants.
We have found that moisturizing with Flexitol Happy Little Bodies covers several aspects in our son’s skin care regimen. At bath time, sulfate-free Happy Little Bodies Body Wash and Shampoo acts as a gentle shampoo and cleansing wash, with 1% colloidal oatmeal to help keep his scalp and skin moisturized.
We would follow-up bath time with Happy Little Bodies Moisturizing Lotion, and use it on a daily basis as part of the regimen. The moisturizing lotion with 2% colloidal oatmeal provides 24 hour moisturization, and is free from fragrance, parabens, steroids or parabens.
Finally, for more difficult skin irritations, we would apply Happy Little Bodies Eczema Relief Cream with 5% colloidal oatmeal, which helps soothe rashes and flare-ups.
One more tip for itchy skin, it’s very hard not to scratch that itch and further damage your skin – so remember to keep their finger-nails trimmed. And look for 100% cotton fabrics and avoid rough, scratchy fabrics.
You can find Happy Little Bodies in Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart stores.
