Kids Hair Cuts at Beaners from baby to beyond!

If you haven’t heard of Beaners, they are a Canadian owned hair salon specializing in kids hair cuts and will do tweens and adults too.  Little kids have the opportunity to sit in a fun car (Jeep, fire engine, etc) and watch a favourite movie. Older kids can sit in a more adult friendly chair and play video games while getting their hair cut. All stylists are specially trained and work at Beaners because of their love for children and their profession. Other services Beaners offers include styling, clipper art, colour (temporary and permanent), ear piercings, birthday parties, and so much more. Each store is equipped with our core line of products including Beaners Own private label, a vegan line in Original Sprout as well as a lice prevention and treatment line with happyheads. Hair accessories, hair brush detanglers, stud earrings and toys can also be found in our locations.  They even have a really great online app that makes it easy to book appointment at all of their locations – perfect for those moments when having a phone conversation is out of the question with little ones running around.  If you are booking your first appointment, Beaners does suggest to call the store to ensure they understand any specific issues and they can also match the best stylist for your child.

My three kids had the opportunity to get their hair ready for Canada Day parties and they had so much fun!  The police car is always the favourite for my boys.  I am lucky because my kids haven’t ever been nervous about getting their haircut – in fact, my four year old would love for his hair to be trimmed every 2 weeks!  He LOVES going to Beaners for a trim and in honour of Canada’s 150, both boys had temporary red colour put in their hair.  All the colour washed out completely and easily in their bath that evening.  If your child has hair cut anxiety, Beaners is a great place to take your child to ease their nervousness.

There was a baby in the salon having his very first haircut.  His mom said he had a rough night sleep the night before and was a bit crabby – not the best way to kick off a babies first haircut!  Since Beaners also caters to big kids, teens and even adults, they have regular salon chairs as well.  Both mom and baby were able to cuddle together in a regular chair while the stylist worked her magic!

My oldest is 8.5 and constantly asking me about putting some colour in her hair.  I agreed to add in the temporary colour into her hair and let her keep it in for a few days without washing it.  It didn’t get on any of her clothes or her bed sheets and boy did she love it!  She has very curly hair that grows very slowly and when it is all curled up, it looks even shorter.  The stylist straightened it all and gave it a nice even trim.  She then added in a feather and the pink colour.  The feather just came out, after many washes, pony tails and trips to the pool.  She is asking when she can get another one – perhaps as a special treat before heading back to school in September.

We did a facebook live video on location at a Beaners.  It was really busy because it was the day after school let out.  You will see the children’s play area in the video.  The location we visited didn’t have a ball pit, but most locations do have one, which is fun for the kids.  We were able to see various ages having their hair cut and we also checked out all of the great products that Beaners has in their salons.

Beaners actually has a private label product they offer in many of their salons.  One of the really popular products is the 2 Knotty Spray In Conditioner and it works for all ages.  This product will not create build up even on the finest hair. Spray on wet or dry hair and let sit for a minute or two before combing. It can be used 3-4 times per day to protect hair from tangles, fly aways and UVB. It is available in 2 colours and 2 sizes.  It can even control static if you spray it into hats!

In light of the recent discussions about chemical burns and sunscreens, we checked out the Original Sprout Sunscreen.  It is an award winning 100% vegan sunscreen can be used by the whole family. Moms love how the non-greasy formula helps keep make-up in place. It is excellent for sensitive, dry or acne prone skin and does not contain titanium dioxide or nano particles.

Beaners also carries lice products, which is always a sensitive issue, but a reality among school aged kids.  Lice peaks in September with back to school and if you encounter lice in your family, Beaners carries Happyheads Scootie-Cootie spray.  It is non-toxic with natural ingredients and pure essential oils, which is very different from the harsh chemical treatments available at your local drug store. Beaners recommends that you spray Happyheads on hair, shoulders, hats and backpacks daily before summer camps or school to protect your child from lice.
