Social Sessions started to provide drop-in style alumnae playdates to recent program “grads” who can no longer attend regular programs but want to maintain connections. We also opened the doors to those in our current Mini Movers or Mom & Baby programs who want EXTRA weekend social connection between classes. Social Sessions provide that missing piece for our village! The heart of Mommy Connections is still our programs, and we want to make sure first and foremost people are still signing up for them. While we do prioritize participants when registering, if you’re new to Mommy Connections and space allows, you may still sign up! It’s also a great way to check things out (albeit in a much more informal format) before signing up for a full program.

Sessions are a super casual (unstructured) way to keep you connected & baby busy. The toys will be out and complimentary coffee station set up. Session timeslots are 1.5 hours, but don’t worry if you’re running late or baby is finishing up that car napyou can drop in whenever during that window to socialize as there are no activities/presenters to miss! There is a small fee to cover expenses as we use our community connections space in the Southend Community Centre. For an additional fee, dads/partners are also welcome to attend (though we do now have Daddy Drop-ins on Saturdays for just the dads, if preferred)! Sessions take place on available Sunday mornings, subject to change depending on demand or other pop-up programming.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS—PLEASE READ:

  • Session Registration:
    • If you plan to come, pre-register via this page by Saturday of each week and if minimum numbers are met, the session will proceed as planned (keep reading for communication details re: session confirmation/cancellation).
    • You don’t need to pay until the session and availability of your spot is confirmed (by the night before the scheduled session)! Payments sent in advance of this confirmation will not be deposited yet.
  • Session Confirmation/Cancellation:
    • Once you are registered, you are encouraged to join our private Facebook group for Social Sessions. Only those registered or who have already attended a Social Session will be permitted in the group as photos from sessions may be shared there as well. This is our main place of communication for sessions for regulars where we share if the next session will be going ahead or not!
    • If you are not in the group, unless you are sent an order reminder it is best to email or check in somehow before showing up to ensure it is going ahead. We will not individually email people, which is why the group was created for easier communication.

  • Payment Process:
    • Once the session is confirmed as outlined above, then you may send your payment to finalize your spot (or payments will be deposited, if pre-paid). Please pay BEFORE the session start so we know you are committed and our minimum numbers are accurate.
    • Reminder that sessions are TAXABLE, so the total will be $11.40 (1 parent) or $18.24 (2 parents) with tax when sending e-transfers. For Social Sessions, please avoid using PayPal so we can reduce the need to refund cancelled sessions, as PayPal payments are instant when selected at registration and pop-up sessions are not guaranteed.
  • Late Registrations/Drop-ins:
    • If you didn’t commit in time but want to drop-in the day of, as long as it is running and there are spots left, you can still join last-minute. Please reach to via email to check if you are unsure, and ALWAYS verify before showing up that the session is still on in case any communication was missed!
  • Change of Plans:
    • If you register and can no longer attend, please let us know as we run sessions based on minimum numbers being met by Saturday/Sunday morning. If you have already paid and need to cancel the same day as the session, we can hold your payment for a future session but cannot issue a refund short notice after session is confirmed/payment has been deposited.

*FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Who can attend Social Sessions?

  • Recent program participants: If you are an alumna/grad who is back to work and no longer able to attend our weekday programs, but can keep connecting on weekends! The end of mat leave doesn’t have to mean “the end” of Mommy Connections!
  • Current program participants: If you are enrolled in a concurrent program (usually Mini Movers, but also Mom & Baby or Travelling Tots) and you just want some extra weekend social time to keep busy between classes.
  • New friends: If space allows, we welcome parents of babies/toddlers new to Mommy Connections who are unable to attend weekday programs! Spots are limited and priority is first given to recent grads/current program participants.

Q: How old should my baby be when they attend?

  • The ideal age range is ~0-24 months. The first aim of Social Sessions is to give a social outlet for “back to work” parents and program alumnae, but if you are back to work before baby is 12 months (or just want that extra social time between classes), we will accept non-mobile babies as well, and if your baby is already 2 they can keep attending. Please keep in mind the possible age range and decide your comfort level in attending with younger babies/older toddlers.

Q: Is there an agenda or activities for sessions?

  • No, social sessions are a different format than programs! To keep expenses/planning to a minimum, sessions will be super casual! That means no presenters or crafts will be scheduled like with our structured programs.

Q: What is the cost per session?

  • Sessions will be $10+tax per adult, or $16+tax per family if your partner would like to attend as well.
