My Personal Tour of the Edleun Childcare Centre in Oakville

07/11/2013

Bright, colourful, organized and creative – those are the first words that come to mind when describing my personal tour of the Edleun centre located at 20 Shepard Road in Oakville.

First off for time-strapped parents (aren’t we all?) needing to hop on a Go Train, the centre is located less than a five minute drive from the Oakville GO (Trafalgar Station) and open as early as 6:45am.

Now for the tour details –

Top notch security awaited me as I did need to wait to be greeted at the door after ringing the bell. Security is by far one of the most important elements parents are looking for in any daycare facility and Edleun passes here with flying colours.

The centre is quite large with high ceilings, large hallways and good size classrooms and includes a well equipped kitchen onsite. I learned that all meals and ingredients are certified by an independent Registered Dietician.

Edleun accepts children as young as 6 weeks old for their infant programs up to age 18 months. Toddler groups are for children 19 months – 3 years, Pre-school is for 3-4 years of age and Kindergarten is available for children that are 5 years old. The centre also offers a before and after-school program for children 6-12 years.  Each age range is divided into their own rooms which are individually decorated and prepared by that group’s teacher. There is plenty of space for play, meal and nap times and also a separate fenced in outside area stocked with toys for outdoor fun.

Edleun is very proud of their pre-school curriculum, having implemented “Frog Street Pre-K” at the beginning of 2012.

“Frog Street Pre-K is a play based learning program with set activities, themes and games for each day of the school year.  Your child’s day would begin with the community circle, where they will make a positive commitment to each other for the day.  They then would engage in themed songs, games, dances, activities, crafts or experiments that capture the essence of learning something new.  The goal of the curriculum is to teach the children to become active members of society in learning respect, responsibility and friendship all while igniting their potential for academic success in the future.” (Edleun Website)

Researching, touring and ultimately selecting a childcare option for your little one can take some time. Be sure to give yourself just that, plenty of time. There are number of different options available to parents, particularly in the town of Oakville, and I encourage you to consider touring the Edleun facility as part of your short list.

For more information on their location at 20 Shepard Road, you can visit their website to set up a time to tour the facility or call their office at 905-581-0086.

Below are a few photos that capture the bright, open space of the centre including its outdoor area.
