Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle-touch health care method based on the discovery, 100 years ago, of a previously undetected, subtle, cyclic micro-movement in the body, called Primary Respiration. When this movement is fully expressed, many conditions tend to improve on their own. The area of contact and the quality of my attention act as a powerful catalyst to optimize this movement, and thus to heal trauma in the central nervous system and body, to restore natural balance.
In a session, you will be fully clothed, lying on a massage table on your back or side, supported by pillows. Infants snuggle in their mother’s arms. I may work on the floor with toddlers and older children who would like to play with toys. I begin a session by sensing the rhythm of Primary Respiration in myself and establishing a sense of feeling grounded, present, and peaceful. I will then make light and sustained hand contact on your head or feet for example. I then attune to the subtle motion of Primary Respiration in your body. Palpatory skills allow me to identify places where issues are held, make contact and then look for and encourage the forces of health to set the priorities of the session and to bring about adjustments from within the body’s own resources.
I love working with moms and babies – it is such an important transition from being pregnant through the birth and then through the post-partum period which is at least 1 to 2 years. I help with newborns, breastfeeding, preemies and postpartum issues.
Babies that have had surgical and drug inventions with birth, benefit a lot from a craniosacral session. BCST helps them organize and settle with all these new experiences of coming into this world. It is an intense experience, even done naturally in a loving environment. Difficulties can take lots of shapes and forms. The main ones are problems with the birth experience (drugs and other intervention), nursing, sleeping, and digestion. BCST is also huge help with c-section babies assisting them in getting settled in their nervous system.
I work with the moms who have had drugs such as epidurals. Post-partum is another big transition with significant body changes. There’s huge benefits to receiving a session within two to six weeks postpartum because BCST helps her system get organized around her new life and all the changes it has gone through, physically, mentally and spiritually. This can also help the new mom with the “baby-blues”, which is normal with all the hormonal shifts that take place.
