We have a great new guest author for our blog, Rosemary Stephanson from Kindermusik with Kari and Friends. There are so many benefits to introducing music to your little ones and here is a fun introduction!
Music & Child Development: A Fun Introduction
I love the feeling of contentment I get when I listen to my favorite songs – a little Top 40 here, a little classical, there. As you can probably tell, I’m a fan of variety 🙂 As an adult, whether you’re listening to music or creating it yourself, the experience of music is rewarding. Well, um, unless you’re listening to/creating music you don’t like. In that case, the experience of music can be mildly to majorly annoying… but that’s another blog post altogether 😉 All joking aside, if music is generally a rewarding experience for adults, is it the same for children? Further, does music benefit children, and if so, how and why? Well, that is exactly what we are going to discuss in this blog series, “Music & Child Development”!
So, who is behind the words you see on this page? My name is Rosemary Stephanson (Miss Rosie, for short), and I am a licensed Kindermusik Educator and online content creator for Kindermusik with Kari & Friends. I’m sure that I will mention Kindermusik a few times throughout this blog series, so in brief, Kindermusik is a music and movement program for young children and their families. At present, you won’t find me teaching at our Saskatoon or Martensville studios; instead, you will find me online, creating blog content for our website, writing Facebook posts, and tweeting up a storm. My favorite hobbies are reading (Sci Fi and Science are my fave book genres), writing and YouTube watching. Oh yes, and I kind-of like music. Just a bit 😉
I truly look forward to engaging in a thought-provoking and informative discussion about music and child development, and I welcome you to join in! To do so, scroll down to the “Leave a Reply” section at the bottom of this page. If you have a topic that you would like to talk about, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I am excited to hear your suggestions!
For now, I leave you with a video of yours truly leading a Kindermusik song called “We’re a Musical Family”. Included in this song is the sign (American Sign Language) for STOP. This is a fun one to do with kids in the morning as a wake-up song. You could substitute “Wave hello to sister/brother/grown-ups” for family names (example: “Wave hello to Miss Rosie“). You could also substitute “Let’s make music” with the words, “Let’s wake up”. Hope you enjoy, and chat soon!
