You’re Doing Great

10/21/2016

Do you ever have one of those days as a parent where you feel defeated? Like you can’t do anything right?

We all have days like that.

Today I woke up, did some work before the girls woke up, packed my daughter’s lunch, got her ready for school – everything was going great and we were running on time – that is until I went in to wake up my youngest – as soon as I opened the door I knew our smooth morning just hit a big bump. At some point in the night she had throw up and she has very long hair which was now very dirty.

How did I not hear her during the night? Why didn’t I know she had thrown up? I should have come in earlier and checked on her. I felt awful, I felt like a bad mom because my little one slept in a throw up bed for who knows how long.

I quickly gave her a bath and got her ready to go – with her screaming and crying the entire time. I quickly threw her bedding into the wash and then got the girls loads in the van to head to school. My oldest was sad because we were a little later than usual to school.

A couple hours later we were at our Mom and Tot group and one of the moms came in a few minutes late and as soon as she came in you could tell her morning had been like mine – she was ready to go and then her little one had other plans and needed to be changed.

We had another mom show up an hour early as she got the time wrong- yesterday another mom showed up for the class only to realize it was Thursday and the class is on Friday.

It happens to everyone. We all have those days – sometimes it even seems like it’s one of those weeks. But what matters is we are doing what we can. We are doing our best. Things might not always go smoothly, we may just want to give up and cry but it’s worth it.

To all the moms out there struggling with their kids, feeling defeated, wanting to give up – You’re doing a great job. You are a great mom. Stop and breathe, you can do this. Yes, you might be late to school or group, your house might be a mess, you may even have a pile of laundry (clean or dirty) so tall that it casts shadows over the room but it doesn’t matter. Your child is happy and healthy and you’re a great mom.

When you see another mom who is struggling give her a smile, a hug or just tell her she’s a great mom. Let’s all support and encourage each other in this adventure called parenting.
