Sell or Save – Mommy Blogger

12/10/2017

My name is Christina Hnatiuk. I am a new mom of a 6 month old baby boy, Marshall. I am married to a wonderful man, we will have been together for 5 years, married for two. I work full time in Human Resources and part time as a Ukrainian dance instructor. I love to try new things, especially new restaurants and food. In my free time, which is hardly ever, I love to bake, specializing in cheesecakes. This is my first time writing a blog but I am looking forward to sharing my adventures in parenting with everyone!

My son will be 18 months this January and the journey has been exciting to say the least.  He is smart and strong willed, and definitely tests our patience on the daily.  After he was born we thought we would have a second baby pretty quick after, but our deadline is here and neither of us is ready for baby number two. We still want another baby but our timeline has changed a bit. The issue with this is that we have been saving all our baby stuff and now are wondering if we continue to save it or sell it and buy new when we do have a 2nd.

When our son was born he was the first grandchild born in sometime. So needless to say we were showered with gifts, toys, books and clothes.  Our son was a big kid and quickly grew out of most of his clothes, many which were not worn or only worn once.  So as he continues to grow I box up clothes after clothes, saving them for a possible next baby. But what do you keep? There is no way of knowing if you’ll be lucky enough to have another one, or what gender it will be, or if it will happen sooner or later. So now I am overrun by boxes of clothes, wondering if I should donate them or keep them.

Clothes are one problem but on top of that there are all the gadgets and toys that he has now out grown. The jolly jumper, the excersaucer, the play mat, and bouncy chair that we wont use unless we have another baby. But what do we do with it now? These items are rarely used and in fairly good condition, so it would be a shame to get rid of them and have to buy new if we do have another baby, but they also tend to take up a lot of space.

My husband and I have decided to keep a lot of the things that are expensive to replace. We have taken them apart as much as possible and tried to find somewhere to store them. As far as clothes go, I have donated or given away most of my son’s clothes. I kept anything that was gender neutral or anything that had meaning to it. I figure if we do have another baby and it’s a girl, we will probably want to buy new clothes anyway, and if it’s a boy maybe some of the stuff I have away will make its way back.

Is there really a right answer, or any answer to this question? I think the answer if any, is different to each family. If you have the space to keep everything or are a very sentimental person, it might be important to keep everything. If you are like me, and really don’t have the space or don’t really have attachment to items, than sell, sell, sell. Especially when it comes to technology I think you might as well sell it now, and get the newest version when you are ready for baby number two. Either way it is whatever is best for your family and your timeline.
